Being stuck in London with the only view from the office window being other office windows, I am a regular sneek peeker (when no one is looking) at the Southgates webcam at Horning. I have not seen a single boat go by in weeks, if there is a forum member out there on the river (lucky devil) please give me a wave. This forum (its postings, the fab pics and the brilliant sense of humour) and this webcam are the only things keeping me sane. By the where is Gays Staithe referred to in a so many postings? My usual source of reference, the excellent Shorebase, is out of commission at the moment. Hurry up April 24th when I can finally get to the Broads. Regards to all Terry

Hi Terry, Shorebase is up and running again I have it in another window at the moment. Gay's Staithe is off Barton Broad just beyond Turkey Broad OOPS sorry see what you mean No it's not there apart from the first page PARDON 'You may only be going from Loddon to Reedham Ferry but I still don't think that the power lead you have connected will be long enough' Bill...

Hi Terry...welcome to the site Gays Staithe is near Barton Broad on the river Ant. It's just off to the left of the main river route to Neatishead. There used to be a pub there called The Barton Angler but sadly that is now gone.

Bill and Dibbler Thanks for the info, I must get a map printed off Shorebase ready for my next trip. Think it would have to be by road as I am staying at Brammerton so would be a mighty trip up and across Barton to Gayes Staithe. Will get on to Shorebase site now before the boss comes in. Regards and thanks again. Terry

Terry. When heading for Neatishead instead of turning right into Limekiln Dyke continue straight ahead for a few yards. In the 70's it was said that in Limekiln Dyke of an evening you could see fireflies. I rowed down it a few times but never saw any. Are they still supposed to be around?

Hi all! Clive - Re. fireflies, we saw loads at Thurne on the public moorings there one night....lovely sight.. It reminds me of a night a few years ago, before boats, when Leigh and I were all night fishing on a lake....I was sure that there was some creature watching us from the trees....spent ages looking, me getting a bit worried, scared out of my mind in fact....turned out to be the luminous dial on Leigh's fishing scales!!!!! Live and learn but, yes, fire flies, definately....are glow worms the same thing??? Terry - we always go extra slow and wave but have never been caught on camera yet....will keep waving though!!! All the best Christina

Thganks Tuppence. Have only seen a glow worm (actually a beetle) once and that was on the towpath of Oxford Canal many years ago. It appears that both are in fact beetles. BOF - Clive
