I think one could print this thread out and use it as a script with actors in a new show called ‘The Forum’.

It would surly leave the audience cringing and in hysterics in equal measure.

A lot of the problem is this thread has now gone on for so many pages that it is easy for posters to have lost track – and trying to look back to original points raised together with those shared right after the event in July not to mention those when the thread came back to life recently.

Making it harder still to work out what is going on and who is saying what is the many missing posts or those which have been edited.  It is akin to being handed a report with lots of blacked out text and trying to make sense of it all.

Some of Griffs posts were edited by Griff.

Astute readers as Exile has made point of would have seen that some had not originally been edited by Griff.  A recently example was in post which says:

“EDIT: You've been a member here long enough to know  why this post has been edited.”

This post was edited by Garry Cantley who wrote the above - Griff then edited his own post and in so doing now appears as the person who edited the post.

Of some interest to some is the fact Garry Cantley is not a moderator – if you look at his aviator it does not show he is one and yet he has the administrative rights to edit peoples posts – or moderate them. So on it goes round and round recycling things with no new facts being brought to the fore which makes it all a bit pointless keep going over the same things until there is something new to report.

Robin , if these people nd been realy astute them they would have been post after post in relationship to this thread asking for it to be put to bed , this forum as everyone knows is moderated and of people don't like that fact then there other forums , in fact after the whole mess last time several members did just that and leave , like u say nothing new is being reported and the entire thread has now not only confusing but getting to the point where moderation is going to have to be used , I don't think there is a conspiracy with  this thread or that there was at OBYS by anyone to me its human error and I have seen nothing to support any other theory . If people which go undertake a full investigation that's fine and good luck I personal think u won't get the answers and are flogging a dead horse , one thing of great interest has come to light , and that's the ownership of the lock itself which after Christmas no doubt pally will share with us as that likely affects more people than this subject does .
This whole this has rolled on nearly a yr now and 5 months since it took place sort of therefore nearly as much time to argue over t as organise it that in its self is ridiculous .
So at the risk of repeating my self again can we draw a line under this episode and move on please .

I always understood the forum team hierarchy to be (in descending order):
Owner;
Administrator;
Moderator.

Hardly surprising, then, that GaryCantley, as administrator, has editing rights, as, I would expect, does the owner.

As far as facts being brought to the fore, I have already mentioned the (to me) interesting facts about the status of Mutford Lock.

But continual bickering is non-productive, and I had hoped that we had gone beyond that. Hopes that have been dashed. I'm sure a simple update regarding the CIC, if, as and when it becomes appropriate, would be welcomed by many, but not the unhelpful personal comments (by anybody).

Hi Pally - lost the will to live with this thread months AND months ago. Didnt realise the core topic was still relevant anymore and having read the last page, realise its not!!!!

Not quite sure why the NBF does this every now and again, but someone must have a self destruct button somewhere - never mind it will resurrect itself again i guess. It always has!!!! Smile

As someone who could argue with himself inside a deserted room I can kind of see the reason behind some of the early bickering (for want of a better word) in this thread, but I see no reason whatsoever for this later round. What is everyone arguing about?

Griff returns to the thread to update it with information which may be relevant to some members here. As a result of that, debate takes place over the ownership, responsibility for, etc, etc, etc, the Mutford Lock. All quite interesting to anyone interested in the Broads, certainly interesting to me.

So what's the problem, what's to argue about?

Perhaps it would help if members refrained from suggesting what might or might not be of interest to other forum members, if you are not interested go read something else. Also, in my opinion it is not for members to comment on what should and should not be discussed or posted, that is the job for moderators and admin. If you have a complaint about a particular post exceeding the TOS then pm the mods rather than starting an argument on the thread. If they agree they'll act. If they don't then put up and shut up!

There are plenty of valid points to debate!

The best way to stop this thread... in a quiet uncontroversial manner so that it can gradually drift away.

1. Light moderation
2. Starting new threads for discussion when side issues come up that are not directly part of the subject.
3. Those of us not on the the CinC (therefore ignorant of the details) not commenting on it or on any updates for those that were.

Not rocket science.

Exile If u were not involved then why are u dictating to the membership of an open and public forum what to and not to post , there are 37 pages here plenty for people to get there heads around but its true the entire facts arnt known not even to the organiser , the update as u call it contained absolutely nothing that wasn't known already to most , yes there are thing that have come up in  light regarding this episode that need new threads I agree and no doubt that will happen , I personaly wish this whole thing would just disappear as most of it is not relivent and if u read my posts u will see that , wat I do object to is other members yourself included telling us that because we were not directly involved the we should not have an opinion or voice it through a pubic channel such as this forum , and that is the reason for my post , this should have bin delt with by those involved by pm there was no reason ay all to inform everyone that the case was still open and the the real truth had yet to be discovered , I for one and I'm know I'm not alone in this will giving  this thread a wide berth from now on as I'm sick to death of hearing about it and being told that my opinion is not req by a member not a moderator and I know I appear to be singling u out but trust me I'm not others have said the same thing  so please don't take this personaly , new threads of relivence  will appear in the future and be discussed Hopefuly by everyone that has a interest  in a democratic fashion .
