TT, it just goes to show how difficult it can be to formulate a simple question.

The answer to your question might be 'Yes'. Would you be any the wiser?   Evil Grin

Yes and at that point I might be demanding answers to other questions but it would answer the mystery of any conspiracy which is what seems to be the suggestion elsewhere.

...and at this point, I thought about asking (as in what would your Fantasy Football team be), what would your fantasy questions be...but then I thought better of it   Tinhat

Richard, I trust that you are well, don't see much of you these days, regretful.

Thank you for your entirely plausible explanation, I'm almost convinced! However, you have forgotten to mention one hugely relevant fact, that the Lock was open to all other than to Griff's flotilla. For example the Pegasus Owners Group passed through entirely without problem.

It is also a fact that one of the Yacht Station staff made some pretty damning, venomous comments about both Griff & the C-in-C itself.

It is also a fact that the Broads Authority has taken on responsibility for the overall management of the Lock, with agreement from ABP.

It is also a fact that several forum members were totally opposed to the C-in-C in connection with the Forum.

It is also a fact that several posts have been removed from this thread.

In all this is a wholly grubby and regretful affair. It needs to be put to rest, but glossing over the facts is not the way to end it.

TBH, I didn’t read Richard’s post as an attempt to lay out all the facts, nor to put it to rest. It gives a very potted version of a series of events, many of which are contained in this very long and rather convoluted thread.

JM, far from clearing the air, your post simply raises even more questions. I don’t expect any answers, in fact, I don’t want any answers. I’m just demonstrating that saying that something is a fact doesn’t make it one and not all facts, even if established as such, are relevant to the enquiry.

These are purely rhetorical questions. Call them my ’12 Fantasy Questions’ if you like. And these are before trying to get the nitty-gritty of who made what decision and why.

Q.1. How many boats were in the Pegasus Owners Group?

Q.2. How many times did the group transit the lock on that day?

Q.3. In which direction(s) did they transit the lock?

Q.4. What were the time(s) of each transit?

Q.5. Did you hear the ‘pretty damning, venomous comments’ yourself, or is this hearsay?

Q.6. What were the comments?

Q.7. By whom were they made (e.g. by a ‘low-level ‘operative? Middle-management? Harbour Master?)

Q.8. What is the nature of the agreement between the BA and ABP? Ownership still remains with ABP. Is it for the maintenance of the lock? Responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the lock and enabling transits?

Q.9. If the BA has responsibility for the day-to-day operation, what is the nature of the agreement between Suffolk County Council, Waveney District Council (as their agents), Sentinel Leisure Trust, (who operate leisure facilities, including the lock, on behalf of WDC), and Sentinel Enterprises Limited, a trading arm of SLT, (who staff the lock)?

Q.10. What relevance do the opinions of members of a discussion forum have to any decision to operate the lock or not? In the OP it was stated ” One important point - although this salty C-in-C is primarily aimed at members of the NBF - It is NOT an NBF C-in-C as obviously we will be outside of the Norfolk Broads area.  Therefore the NBF will not be responsible for any boats/crews in any shape/form whatsoever.”

Q.11.What is the relevance of posts being removed from the thread? Posts are removed for a number of reasons. Breach of the ToS and irrelevance being just two. Unless the content of removed posts can be established, their removal is not indicative of any connection with the failed lock transit.

Q.12. In the light of the written apology and the report that both the BA and Sentinel consider the correct decision was taken on the day, given the available information, define ‘wholly grubby’.

I have just one question. Why on earth is this being aired on this forum?

Griff, Jenny Morgan and a group of others effectively left this forum following a disagreement and found a new home on the "other one". Why not air it there or communicate any news/developments by email or PM.

I apologise in advance if anyone is offended by my comments, I have not set out to cause any offence. On the contrary, Griff has my full admiration for the incredible amount of hard work he put into the planning of the event. It must have been a bitter blow when through no fault of his own, it all went wrong.

Steve51, as far as I'm concerned, it's only because BroadAmbition, having left the forum, chose to return and revive the thread. Yes, it is being discussed elsewhere, but not so openly. You have to be voted-in member to view that discussion. Mustn't tarnish the 'friendly' image. I prefer things to be out in the open.

Such 'discussion' as is now taking place is not about the whys and wherefores. That would be rather pointless, as is this discussion, I suppose   Indifferent

Broad Ambition chose top keep members here updated on the situation. I would assume he did this here (as well as in the "other place") as some of those involved use this forum alone.

Of the replies since that update, there have been one each from 8 members (inc JM) not including this one of mine.

Two from 3 members,
Three (+ one deleted) from 1 member
7 from 1 member,
and finally 14 from 1 member.

Of those 14 members, only 2 are from members who now predominantly only use the other place. 3 if you include me.
Including this post, those three members have contributed a total of 5 surviving posts.
JM's single (but duplicated ) post was in reply to Richard, who would not be expected to post in the 'other place'.
Broad Ambitions posts were an update and two follow-ups.
Mine is this one!
Of the 12 other members active in this thread, some use both forums others only this one. My first rhetorical question is "Why is that considered grounds to fire cheap snipes at the "other place".
As far as my views about forum openness, well sorry Pally, That's just one where you and I will have to agree to disagree.
