I guess most of you are heading for your boats tomorrow so can I just wish all you lucky chaps the time of your lives out there. Oh I wish I was coming along, its so exciting!

Next year I shall be first out of the pier heads...

In the mean time I have sent my humans to Gorleston Pier Sat morning to take some pictures and then they are going to be along Lake Lothing doing similar so they can show me it all happening.

Have fun and stay safe everyone.

If I am a "woody" how come there are no "fibreglassy's" "plasticy's" or "steelies"?

Ok, 'Information Post' - updated again - 'Coastguard'

--------------------

From midday / early afternoon today, we'll be on our way in MrsG's car - Norfolk bound, therefore I'll no longer have access to the internet and the NBF.  (Don't have a smart phone - not smart enough to operate one)

I'll only be able to keep my finger on the pulse via others I meet on the river etc. so if you PM me - it will be a while before I see it / reply if at all.

Hi All

I have this morning confirmed all is ok for the Haven Bridge lift at 11:00 saturday morning for "Secret Lady" +21 others.

Once we arrive at Breydon bridge, all those that can pass under the bridge without a lift should do so to minimise the time the bridge needs to be open. If you are passing through when it is open, don't dawdle (that goes for Haven bridge too) as with so many boats to get through we want to be as quick as possible incase any emergency vehicles need to get over the bridge.

Since my vessel is effectively lead boat for this part of the trip, I will undertake all VHF communications for contacting the bridge, so please keep a listening watch on VHF12 for those with VHF. Messages will be relayed by PMR for those without.

Once into the harbour, there is a 7 knt speed limit. It takes about 20 mins to get to the entrance and we will need to call for permission to exit to sea once level with the lifeboat station. Again, whoever is lead boat at this time should call for the whole fleet.

Please keep a good eye out. The port is commercial and there is some big stuff down there that you want to keep clear of!

See you all saturday!!!

Cheers

Mark

Reality check time! There have been six and seven foot high waves coming through Lowestoft harbour mouth for most of the week with a near gale force wind blowing down the
North Sea. The wind is dropping but the sea will probably still be lumpy for a while yet. Indeed there might still be an unpleasant popple going out at Gorleston. Okay in a
Broom or a Drascombe, although probably not much fun in either! Okay, so it's only Thursday but it will need to be calm all day tomorrow to allow the sea to settle. Has
anyone thought to alert Lowestoft harbour authorities that a convoy of small boats intend to arrive at pretty much the same time? Well, actually I do know the answer to
that one  Wink

Fingers crossed! It's miserable here at the moment. Might pay to re-phone LT harbour control to make sure everyone there knows.

‘Plays the Bugle’  -  Last Post

(Before departing for Norfolk)

Skippers – Before Saturday - please have a last read through the ‘Information post’ familiarise yersen wi it and make your crews aware (Best practise – print it off relevant points and take it with you)

Any further questions / suggestions – you can get me on my mobile (07966 168647), PMR or VHF or in person on the rivers.

Safety is paramount for the weekend, the decision as to proceed via the salty stuff or go up river is yours alone and no one elses.

Thanks to all those who have offered support / advice or just your ‘Best Wishes’ for this forthcoming event.  It would not have got this far without you.  There have been times when to be honest I thought I had opened up a hornets nest and wished I hadn’t bothered.  Still we are through that malarkey now, so onwards and upwards.

Looking forward to meeting everyone old and new at OBYS Saturday afternoon.

Fingers still crossed for a favourable sea state with fair winds and huge sunny, clear Broads skies (Current forecast is swell 0f 0:4m from the north with a wind speed of 2kts – yes just 2kts, sunny at 25c – Looks like Neptune is going to smile on us - if it stays like that – we’ve cracked it)
