Update:-

Comms - It is strongly recommended that all craft carry a PMR (CH4) for inter-ship comms as previously mentioned.  If you do not have one, Mbird has 2 x spare PMR's he is willing to lend out along with a hand-held vhf (You need a license to transmit)

'B.A' has 3 x spare PMR's available, I think 'The Corsican' may have a spare one also.  If you need one please ask.

Skipper of Tantalus V is a member of the 'National Coastwatch Institution' (NCI) He will be calling his colleges up (VHF CH37) Saturday forenoon who are at end of South Pier Gorleston for a report on the sea state.  Mbird is also going to get up early (For him anyway) and take a drive to the coast to make use of his excellent MkI Port and Stbd look-outs with regards to the sea-state.  I will be calling the Harbour master at GYA for him to to the same shortly before we slip and proceed for Haven Bridge.

Coastguard - I will notify the coastguard by phone on the morning of the 12th our expected time of departure and arrival times with boat names and crew numbers.  If your craft is 'CG66' registered then let me know. I will ring them again after we are safely through Lowestoft Bridge on arrival

Skippers - please take a minute to read and refresh yourselves with the 2nd post on this thread 'Information post', it has been updated many times. Your boat / crew should by now be very close to being ready in all respects.

Lastly (For this post anyway) come the day, that is the forenoon of Sat 12th - even if the sea state is calm, there is no pressure for you to proceed out to sea, if you choose to revert to Plan 'B' you are most welcome to do so.  It is your call and yours alone.

UPDATE FOR HISTORIC BOAT PASSENGERS

MTB trust have made the following request.

Please ensure that you arrive at the Newsomes yard BY 10.00 on Saturday morning of the 12th.

NB. Newsomes is a working yard and parking is limited and first come first served, so you may arrive to find that you have to park your car elsewhere off site. Whatever, if you are not ready to sail at 10.30, she WILL leave without you!!

Just a little note for all those attending this Cruise in Company (and the one via river too) that I have designed and had printed some cards and postcards to keep as a souvenir of this trip Smile

There should be enough cards for every person who is taking part be it by sea or river, but because to go out to sea is special and with a flotilla like this extra special (not to mention for some skippers this maybe their first trip in the salty stuff) you, will have a special edition post card to remember the day.

I will try and get them to everyone but otherwise just stop me and ask for yours.

Let's all have a great time with great weather Smile

If Mbird goes and has a look at the sea it will only tell us the conditions at that time. If the wind is in the east conditions can rapidly change. GYA port control cannot see the sea, only by camera. I will contact Gorleston N.C.I. before departing Berney Arms as they are right above the entrance where the worst conditions usually prevail.

Regards
Roger

Re the foul tide, going further offshore might. and I stress might mean that you meet a slack or even a flood tide. Well worth digging out a tidal flow chart and time table.

JM - I tried doing just that on the electronic charts t'other night there when doing the passage planning. - It won't work, by the time we found a favourable tidal stream, we'd be that far offshore the distance covered there and back, we could have made Den Helder!  Smile
