So sad to see this hotel in such a state, it was owned by two very dear friends of mine Viv and Brian Oakey. Sadly when Brian became very ill the family decided to sell . I hope they build something useful on the site . Maggie x

I imagine there will be a Tesco In wroxham soon then, either that or new housing that will be bought up by buy to let investors or 2nd home owners from the cities which we all know does the local economy the world of good. It should be used for business purposes or something else that will benefit the wider local community in my opinion.

Chelsea-by-the-Broads? Or, if the predicted coastline retreat continues then Chelsea-on-sea!

Anything is better than the delapidated eyesore being replaced surely? The old hotel wasn't exactly an aesthetic ambassador for the area in its recent condition. I was unaware that people buying property in the area were so unwelcome. Seems that their money is happily grabbed at every opportunity though. Maybe tourists, but not their wallets, are equally unwelcome to the NIMBY fraternity too? Insular bigotry is not an attractive quality. John

Dibbler has a point here in my opinion. Nobody complains when an outsider offers them a higher price for their home than a local. That is seen as market forces and the vendor is happy to trouser the extra cash. Nobody complains when their local area becomes a popular second home / holiday home /retirement zone and therefore increases the value of their personal house. Nobody complains that second home owners pay 95% council tax and use virtually nil services. Therefore subsidise other locals. Nobody complains that outsiders that come in support all sorts of local businesses. And yet outsiders could easily get the impression that they are not wanted. Fortunately though it is only a minority that seem to to believe that there should be some kind of restriction of movement on British nationals in Britain. Most are actually very welcoming indeed. Please, please no reposts about local housing for young local people. Firstly nothing has changed on that aspect for a century in the private sector of the market. Second ... the world has moved on and most young people now move on with it. Jobs etc require that in today's market. My 3 offspring are all at Uni at present and it is extremely unlikely that the jobs that they will end up with will be in Norfolk. They may not even be in Britain either. So that is 3 out...do not forget that they will not be locals wherever they end up either. The modern world requires modern solutions to housing and that is not with us yet due to rabid Nimbys, the conservation industry and lilly livered politicians.

Lets wait and see what the replacement is actually to be before we start howling nimbyism and such. I'd rather see it being housing for the wealthy, or for the poor or even for the average than a derelict eyesore that benefited nobody at all. Yes I'd hate to see it become a Tesco or other supermarket, nor would I like to see it become another branch of Roys, if it were in competition with an independent shop already established in Hoveton, but even any of those would be an improvement on that which has just been pulled down.
I think therefore I am. René Descartes. I sink therefore I was. Maurice Mynah.

Exile, no, it's not nimbyism. Years ago I worked in Chichester Harbour and lodged in a delightful village called Bosham. House prices down there then were four times that of Lowestoft and certainly well above house prices in, shall we say, less attractive areas in Sussex. During the winter Bosham was deserted, allegedly only one in nine properties being locally owned. The locals had been squeezed out. The same today can probably be said of Southwold and Blakeney. Local ways, local values and local accents are lost, probably for ever, something that I think is to be regretted. It's not that I, and many others, don't welcome incomers as people, just that we regret the change that immigration brings with it. Nothing personal, not nimbyism, just an affection and respect for what we grew up with.
