My lovely partner has just given me for a birthday present the six novels based on and around the Norfolk Broads by David Blake. Going to have my nose in the books for some time. Sure I'm in line for a good read let me know?

I wouldn't waste your time Flash, factually inaccurate in so many ways re locations, Police, time/distance lines etc and plots as lean as wafer thin ham. There are a host of similar book series around, one set based in North Norfolk, another in Snowdonia and yet another in Cumbria, they are all very similar in content with the only thing that distinguishes one set from the others are the place names, if Mr Blake has ever actually been to Norfolk he has failed to take on board any actual facts about the place, a few of his more glaring errors include, calling riverside footpaths Towpaths, having the Norfolk Police issuing parking tickets to boats moored on private land and having Wroxham Police Station housing dozens of Police officers with it's own Murder squad. The errors are legion the writing poor, but don't let me put you off.;)

They are fictional after all! True, if you know the Broads well enough there are things that will wind you up but the stories are ok and easy going.

“OK and easy going” about sums them up, as for keeping you on the edge of your seat, I’m not sure, the plots are easily seen through. As I said it’ a generic police story that could be set anywhere but the writer has chosen The Broads to appeal to those of us who love the area, having done that he should try to get his geographical and operational details right. If you want to read a similar series but set in Northumberland try the DCI Ryan mysteries written by LJ Ross, well written and well researched  by someone who has bothered to check their facts.

I have read all 6 books, yes there are inaccuracies with locations, distances etc, but I still enjoyed them.

Kindest Regards
