If you are going up to Coltishall keep an eye on the engine water temperature. With the river levels so low at present propellers are chopping off weed at a lower level than usual and this is being drawn into the cooling system.

+1 on that. My friend got caught out by that last week after a trip up there. Engine overheating on the way back, cause clogged up weed filter.

Edited because my brain works faster than my fingers.

We Were up there two weeks ago and the BA were weed cutting with the mechanical cutter, fishing was impossible with the amount of cut weed heading downstream. the grate thingy takes a lot out but a substantial portion is missed and heads downstream.

Last weekend the weedcutter was heading down the bure towards Thurne mouth last I saw of it. The Ant has also had some weed cutting help recently and the short cut weeds are everywhere.

It's good to see the BA cutting the weed but better signage would be good.

It's a long time since I have seen so much weed on Oulton Broad & the Waveney as right now.

Not only weed but also algae. We have 'Spray' on the slip right now. She had many yards of planking replaced during the winter so we thought it prudent to pull her out after five weeks in order to see how she had settled down. We were surprised at the algae build up on new anti-fouling paint in such a short time. Anyway, an opportunity to tidy up the paintwork and to clean her up. For us the good news was that 'Spray' had settled down a treat. Indeed we are well pleased with the quality of work done on her. New timber in a 105 year old boat, worth checking.

So yes, keep an eye on water-cooling inlets. Algae can be just as damaging as weed.

Weed cutting on the  Sometton stretch of the Thurne yesterday. We got weed round the prop and rudder Monday and a lot of reverseing to clear it as there was no control.A Buttifant yacht  was caught with weed round his prop and the yard  were trying desperately. To clear it with boat hooks  and had to return next day.Lethal stuff

It sounds as if Maffett's may get some callouts against their prop/dive insurance.

And a few more pressure cleaners might be sold. This is Spray's bottom five weeks after launching.
