the way I look at it, if they ask for all those details they are up to no good.
so I vote scam.

This is obviously a scam.

Once they have your email, password and date of birth, they can log into your email, search through your address book, then log into any bank accounts, say they forgot the pass word, the password will be forwarded to your email account, which they will monitor, but the bank would ask a security question, which might be your date of birth, or your mothers maiden name, which they can get from your facebook or email address book,  as it will be the same as one of your uncles, then they empty your account, and no trace to who took it.

There are also several bank ones going aroundat he moment, saying that there are unusual transactions taking place on your account which could be fraudulant, please provide your account details password, etc etc otherwise they will freeze the account.  yeah... Sure.

This is phishing, I have had several this month, and I don't even bank with any of the ones they send out.
Just delete them.

So wake up...
I cannot believe you have to ask if this was a genuine email.!!
Mind you, better to ask than fall for a scam like this.

Don't forget to change your password now and again, and NEVER use the same password on other accounts.
Never have a simple password like your pet dog  like Fido as you would have talked about him in other accounts too.

If in doubt, a quick phone call to your bank using your number NOT the one that's in the email... Doh..

best regards, Richard.

A tad harsh Rustic, "This i obviously a scam" and "So wake up...
I cannot believe you have to ask if this was a genuine email.!!"
Not everybody is aware of these things, and we all have to learn at some stage.
I myself was a victim of a scam a while back, as some of you might remember. My computer was playing up and it had sent a succession of "reports" to microsoft. That's when I received a phonecall from somebody from microsoft confirming I had the problem. I fell for it and it was only fluke that I realised what was going on before the chappie was able to do anything.

Recently I deleted a massage that had gone into my "spam pot" and I still wonder if it was perhaps genuine. It was from a name in HMRC (I googled the name and it was genuine) it had an attachment and the instructions to open it.(which I didn't)
The only thing that worries me is that for the first time last year, I did my own Tax form, self certification". I wondered if it had anything to do with that!

MM you are right, it was a bit harsh, that's why I followed it with...
Better to ask first..
So I apologise for that.

I just hope people don't fall for these.

Also a note for people who use mobile WiFi, are you really sure the site you are using is genuine.
What can happen is a scammer can create a WiFi hot spot that looks like a genuine site, and this is linked to the web via a third party lap top.

However all key strokes are being recorded by the scammer, so again, your email address and password is now in the public domain.

So take care.

best regards, Richard.

Yep!..I frequently get these phishing scams from "Banks"...It is obvious that these are scams and expect very few fall for them.
I also get emails, usually from Nigeria, telling me that I can claim about $50 million or some other ridiculous amount if I send private details. I must admit that I used to get some satisfaction winding these scammers up but not have done so for some time.
Got one just this morning telling me that I can claim some vast sum if I send them $250.
The one I posted above was a total new one on me and was unable to see what a scammer would gain from it so thanke for wising me up on that one Rustic...Lesley
