Another new bit of historic cine film of the Broads has appeared on YouTube. By the clothes and hair styles I'm guessing probably mid 1960s. The holiday was taken onboard one of the Sea Huntress class of Elysian 34's from A.G. Ward's of Thorpe.

Lovely to see the passenger steamers Resolute and Queen of the Broads, plus the Golden Galleon and a wherry or two along the way .... also a very close encounter between a coaster and Reedham Bridge!!  Gasp

Thing haven't changed much since the early 60's.
Boats speeding - boats sinking - bridges being hit.
But the best bit is the smiling faces.

More then than now ?

Historic?!!! I remember it as if it were yesterday!

Ford Corsair had "C" reg, which was 1965 year, so probably filmed not long after, as they didn't last long, either in production or on the road. I should know, I had one!!

Regards, Ray.

lovely piece of history. I enjoyed watching Austerity - an FT Everard ship. A family I know and have the greatest respect for .

Steve & Maggie.

Not quite an ancient mariner ..... though some say he was at sea before Pontius was a pilate !

Fantastic footage as I remember aged 10!!! Morning Flight as well at Thorpe.

My father went on several trips around UK, France and Iceland as a guest of the Everard ships so they also have memories. My grandfather was the editor of a shipping journal, Shipbuilding and Shipping REcord (I think) and had suitable friends. There was a specific Captain who was a family friend but just recall the name

Fantastic film. I wasn't born when it was made which makes it fascinating to see just how much appears identical to what it does now about 45 years later. Intrigued by the 'Golden Galleon' on Breydon though - I didn't know trip boats ever made the trip across. The family seem such a happy bunch - even though there's 6 of them squashed on to an Elysian 34! What has changed is boat standards since that time.

Simon (Broads01),

Oh, shut up about your age, making me feel even older now! Playful Wink

If you think 6 on an Elysian 34 is cramped, how do you think 6 adults and 3 kids managed on a Ripplecraft 32? We did, and the ladies served up a cooked dinner every day! Eating out was unknown then, packet of crisps was about it, or fish and chips as a treat. But we all seemed to come up smiling, that's when we could straighten up at all - not much headroom on those boats. Expectations have certainly changed from the 60's, two wash basins were considered the height of luxury on cruisers of the day.

Regards, Ray.

I can remember our family holidays from the same time, same glasses and hairstyles etc, a real flash back in time. My Dad drove home non stop to Kent at high speed after the 1966 holiday so we could watch the world cup final, good times.
