If you're son's interested, Teasel was played by Lullaby from Hunter's Fleet, they swapped the transom for a new one with Teasel's name signwritten on it, which I believe is still in the yard somewhere. The yard was also used for quite a lot of the filming, as it's one of the few places they found without any obviously post-1930s items in the background.

Pat Simpson was asked to find suitable boats.....Water Rail is featured on two VERY short clips. One as they creep away from Gays staithe (that was were it was filmed) and another at Stalham. The rates of pay were very good! The cast stayed in what was Sprowston Hall and my mother in law cleaned the rooms then, they left a script and my mother in law reckons that young Henry D didn't wash during his stay! Liz

Thanks everyone. I was out travelling last week with work and unable to reply to the posts. My Six year old son was very pleased with the pictures and the links. We have just returned back from the boat this weekend but did not get a chance to venture up to Wayford. We will have to fit this in next time.

Hi, I found this thread after also wondering 'what happened to the Margoletta" ?! Seems such a shame that 'Teasel' is still about and available to hire, but her nemesis possibly not . . . Any luck on locating her yet Paul? Tim

Hi Tim, No, not yet. We had made some plans to go hunting as it were, after some tip off’s that she may be in or around Wayford, but owing to time we have not made it as yet. I’m surprised that the DVD of the series my son has is not worn out, as it is on at every available time. Added to that we have had to build Margoletta Lego boats from scratch, this has been nice to do on rainy days. The problem we have now is that if and when we find her, he thinks that we should buy her. I can tell you, one GRP boat and helping with the maintenance on a 1950’s wooden boat is enough at the moment with out another wooden one, (as much as I would like it)…. We may head that way this weekend. If we do we will keep our eyes peeled and report back our findings. Cheers

Once found this boat needs saving! (I have fond memories of this boat in its real life as JANCA) We recorded the series on video when it was first broadcast. Needless to say my children once old enough wore that out as well. I then got the DVD for Christmas a few years ago.........

Hi, Posted previously as luaginggravy due to problems, all sorted now! Yes please Paul add any info you get, have just booked a boat for April so looking forward to a hunt around myself, and for 'Death and Glory'. Yes this boat needs saving, let's hope there's someone out there brave (rich!) enough!

There is lots of information on the Margoletta and the other boats in this thread from 2005. Doesn't sound too promising though..... http://www.the-norfolk-broads.co.uk/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=22&Topic=1407&srow=1&erow=10 I remember one year hiring some of Hunters yachts, and coming across them filming a night scene on "Teasel" (using special filters in the middle of the day) on the way to Neatishead. "Lullaby" still had the "Teasel" name when we hired her the following year which was quite nice! I loved the series, watched it again recently and brought back lots of memories. Mike

Last time I saw Janca was indeed at Wayford Bridge, would have been a few years ago. She looked hogged, which is always worrying for a bot of this type, her transom also looked twisted suggesting to me that she has broken her back.

Been searching a bit more and have found a postcard of Margoletta on this web page http://postcardsfromthenorfolkbroads.net/Page_3.html Its 11 photos down, and dates from 1959 when she was called Craigmore. The website says that her number was B677 and the photo seems to bear that out, yet all the recent photos and references to Janca and Craigmore show the registration number as B977. Mike
