Hi all,

This may sound like a strange request however after acquiring our son a DVD of Authar Ransomes Coot Club and Big Six he has become what can only be described as obsessed. Wholesome viewing which of course his choice could have been a lot worse.

Through our travels on the broads we have located the boat used as the Death and Glory, however he is now asking were is the Margoletta? Now we know that she was once kept at Horning for quite a number of years and was called Janca (B977). The question is what happened to her or does anyone have an idea where she is now?

It would make his day if we could locate her so that he could get to see her. At the same time it would also stop the constant question “where is the Margoletta”?

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul have not seen her for some years. We were on the  broads while they were filming that series. The Titmouse is in  Hunters shed with the false transom of the Teasel which is still in the fleet today.I have pictures which  I will try to post of  all of the boats used.including thr Catchalot and the  Albion which was the Sir Garnett and the monster pike that featured in Big Six and was in the Swan for many years was in  the museum of the Broads after the landlady gave it to them as she was fed up with " That Fish " much to the disgust of the locals..Even the Children and  Grandchildren have seen those two videos  and know many of the places featured. The first Coot Club Book we had was two shillings ( ten pence ) and has been read countless times round the family. Hope to see you on the river,

She was in the boatyard next to Wayford Bridge on the right hand side going up stream. She was in a pretty sorry state but the owner told me she was going to restore her. This is not the large yard Wayford Marine Services.

interestingly enough when they made the films the boat registration numbers weren't changed, so if you spot the numbers you can check them against Craigs list.

If you're son's interested, Teasel was played by Lullaby from Hunter's Fleet, they swapped the transom for a new one with Teasel's name signwritten on it, which I believe is still in the yard somewhere. The yard was also used for quite a lot of the filming, as it's one of the few places they found without any obviously post-1930s items in the background.

Pat Simpson was asked to find suitable boats.....Water Rail is featured on two VERY short clips. One as they creep away from Gays staithe (that was were it was filmed) and another at Stalham. The rates of pay were very good!

The cast stayed in what was Sprowston Hall and my mother in law cleaned the rooms then, they left a script and my mother in law reckons that young Henry D didn't wash during his stay!

Thanks everyone.

I was out travelling last week with work and unable to reply to the posts.

My Six year old son was very pleased with the pictures and the links. We have just returned back from the boat this weekend but did not get a chance to venture up to Wayford. We will have to fit this in next time.
