Sponsorship,

Shortly after we announced our confirmation of taking part in the Pageant, Capt Chaos was tasked with sorting out clothing for the day along with Breamslayer. Capt Chaos in very short order then managed to secure some financial help from two Donny firms that he deals with that are willing to help out with the cost, it won't cover it but it is welcome all the same

(Incidentally the cost of the crew [10] clothing alone for the event will be knocking on the door of £3000.)

We were very keen to offer a Local Broads business the chance to be our main sponsor for the event and offer them the opportunity to benefit from this unique occasion.  DollyD was tasked with the responsibility for this.

I had a go myself, I got in touch with Broadland Fuels seeing as we will use somewhere in the region of 300+ x Ltrs of diesel, they weren't very good at returning calls or e-mails I have to say, and when I had enough of waiting and pushed slightly for an answer, the answer was 'No', which was a good reply as at least I had one!

Rix Fuels was my next target, and as of yet I've had no reply whatsoever and I'm not chasing them either.

DollyD then contacted 'QDS' or 'Quality Discount Stores'.  Well that is to say he contacted 'Lathams' of Potter Heigham.  They are a local business that have been linked with the Broads for an age of course.  Lathams are just one or 34 outlets as part of the 'QDS' group.

'QDS - QDJ'  Smile   A fortunate choice of letters!

The upshot is that we now have our main sponsor for the event 'Quality Discount Stores' Well done DollyD once again, and thank you to QDS for having the nounce to take advantage of us!

As has been explained to QDS we cannot advertise during the actual event, that is the four hours or so whilst the pageant is proceeding down the river Thames.

We can however display a QDS flag on our new Fwd flagstaff whenever we see fit and will do so. There will be a photo/press call (probably in Potter Heigham) before the 26th May where we will fly all flags/bunting etc with (some) crew in 'Pageant Rig' and QDS T-shirts, we will do the same in Lowestoft before departure and again in WID.

We are well chuffed to have a Broads Sponsor and they have been very generous, without stating exactly how much, the assistance from QDS will cover our diesel, water/pump outs, any berthing fee's, food, onboard stores and then some!

Some more news.

I have been keen to have the live video feed onboard 'B.A' for the actual day of the Pageant on the Thames.
This will enable forumites to accompany us on the day.

I'm not so keen on having a second laptop onboard and having to look after the system whilst out at sea and navigating the Thames estuary however.  Besides all forumites logging onto the live feed will see is the journey down to Oulton Broad, then at sea - there is nowt to see apart from a few buoys. The Thames transit I admit would be interesting but I will be somewhat otherwise engaged.

The two days that will be interesting will be our exit from WID then up to Barns Elm reach where we are to pick up a buoy for Saturday overnight.  Then of course the actual pageant flotilla on the Sunday back down to WID.

Now I'm not capable of setting up the system, and to be honest have not the time nor the desire to learn how to either.

I know a man who is more than capable and willing to do it for the benefit of all of us all though, and so do you - 'Londonrascal'  -  We have been talking.

I have cleared this with Richard of course before posting as one should do so

Richards web-cam thing is not available for us to borrow as he will be using it for the river trip to the NBF QDJ street party at Salhouse.

Therefore Londonrascal will meet us in WID, come onboard and set the system up, that is cameras, mic, laptop, cables, power source etc.  He will then accompany myself and GriffTiff up river Saturday afternoon to our mooring, this will take around 3 x hours or so. During this river trip we intend to be broadcasting live in the normal manner. I'm hoping he will do the live mic thing during this trip too.

Whilst this is going on, myself and GriffTiff will be paying attention as to how to monitor the system (Not at the same time I may add!).  Shortly after arrival at the moorings the live broadcast will cease and LR will depart.

Sunday 3rd June - We'll commence broadcasting shortly before departure (Assuming we can remember how to switch the system on and connect the live link thing) and hopefully keep the thing running right through to returning to WID.  There will not be a full running commentary for the four hours but I'll endeavour to say something now and again, and get my dish in the way of the camera no doubt

L.R - Has of course agreed to all this, it is all his personal kit and knowledge and his time providing the whole set up.  There will be a cost involved for the dongle up-link thingy which LR has generously insisted he picks up the tab for.

I'm very grateful that LR is doing this for the benefit of those that cannot be there for this historic event

Now lets make it happen

Just back to a wet London which is a culture shock to a week in Norfolk.  I will be doing a seperate website (like Norfolk Broads Live) but more Thames Pageant in look and name, it will be simple and clean with space for a banner link to this fourm - this should make the likes of people looking for info on the event on Google stumble over the site - which will aid with exposure.

I'll be doing a complete instuction guide for Griff & Co to use on the day, complete with a 'training video' so it should be easy as pie and not be too many hicupps.

I'm also going to get in touch with the Three marketing people next week to see what they can offer us so fingers crossed.

No pressure then..
