Thames 1000 boat Flotilla

http://www.thamesdiamondjubileepageant.org/

It's been killing me keeping this quiet it really has.

The journey began way back in June when our DollyD found the website on hearing of 1000 boats formed from the commonwealth making up the flotilla on the Thames.

There followed pages and pages of application forms, photo's history, crew details etc, there was a plethora of information required.  As we progressed through the initial stages there was yet more form filling and questions from the organisers.

Myself and DollyD spent hours putting together an application and putting 'B.A' in the best light possible. The organisers are aware and are now expecting us to be dressed overall AND flying the NBF Standard So I'll need to borrow it please.

As a result if you are planning on watching the QDJ on TV then look out for the NBF flag as 'B.A' will be underneath it!

This means of course that 'B.A' is now going to be at sea literally from Lowestoft down to the Thames and back. Guess who is going to have to do a refresher course in Navigation sharpish? I know I used to instruct it to Y.O's but that was in another life so need to brush up.

I'll post more details and when I have time as we are about to dash up to Jockland in the next five mins

Griff

Congratulations Griff, What a fantastic honour! However with the provenance of BA and the work your family put into this craft you really deserve to be there.
I am a subscriber to "Classic Boat" who run the restoration of the year competition and really do think BA should be in there.
She is a well found craft and you will not have a problem, I made passages in the 70's that would not be allowed today under the modern rules, in fact my small boat could not even carry the safety equipment to qualify.
My Very Best Wishes.

Captain Howe.
The Broads are:-
Not a Theme Park.
The Broads need the winter to recover, the numbers are becoming too great and the grey water too damaging.
