Add To Ignore List
I have started this thread to help with the radio situation during the cruise in company / forum meet this June.

Firstly can we keep this thread purely for the following information to be collected here and I will try and up date the next post so we can print out the results and take with us if need be.

If you post ONLY:-
The name(so) you wish to use or be called on the radio. ( Could be forum name & or boat name)

The type of radio(s) you will be using i.e. PMR, CB, VHF ( ham band )

Group you are in.

Any comments regarding the radio usage etc to be made under the original thread that Griff started.

I will repost this on the original thread and suggest the following usage to try and keep some sort of radio discipline.

The following should apply to any radio type.

All monitor a fixed "home" channel(s) initially.

If any one wants to chat with a friend, then make contact on the fixed "home" channel by calling their name.
Once contact is made then move to an agreed channel between yourselves.
After you have finished the chat then move back to the fixed "home" channel.
This way you will not block the fixed "home" channel.

Hope this helps!
EDIT - to add Group you are in.

Add To Ignore List
I will add your name and radio details here as you post.

CHANNEL SELECTION

PMR radios normally have 8 channels
I would suggest we use CHANNEL 4 as "HOME" Channel.

CB  Normally 40 channels FM
Would suggest using channel 35 for "HOME" channel

VHF (Ham radio)
Initial 145.625 Repeater GB3NB for calling
then to 145.425 (S17) for chat or channel(s) lower if in use.

We are NOT talking about MARINE BAND radio.
We are talking about -
The type of radio(s) you will be using i.e. PMR, CB, VHF ( ham band )

Any one with a Marine band radio will - or should - know that a licence and test IS REQUIRED.

If you look closely you will see the VHF radio ops are Licensed Radio Hams with call signs.

Tks for pointing that out.

Lord Paul, do we PMRs need to select a subchannel?  (I am completely radio-useless, though I love talking to Keith on them and saying "over" - have been instructed long ago not "over and out" as that means "speak up-shut up".)  LOL

Lisa,
I would suggest that if you wish to speak to another person then you firstly call them on - in your case - Channel 4 on PMR.
Once they answer, ask them to go to channel ?? Which ever you wish to choose.
Reselect that channel i.e. Channel 7 - listen to that channel to make sure it is not in use, then recall that person on channel 7 and chat away.
Once you have ended you chat, then go back to the home channel - Channel 4.

Hope that answers your question.
If not then PM me and I will give you more details.

Will look forward to seeing / speaking to you both.
