We currently have 6 appliances and the Hydraulic Platform in attendance at a fire. Ladders and hose reel jets are in use.

It's a thatch fire at Fern Cottage. Nobody was hurt.

Where is Fern Cottage?

Glad to hear nobody was hurt.

This is just around the corner from me (I live on School Road), and we had a good view of the hydraulic platform being used to get at all of the thatch. Whilst thatched buildings are very picturesque (we have quite a few in Ludham, though fortunately not our house), thatch can burn very easily and thatch fires are notoriously difficult to fight (as the outer layers continue to shed water whilst it's burning underneath).

Thanks Strowager, I hope the whole house isn't lost.

Externally it doesn't look too bad MM. Hopefully the Owner's insurnace will cover the costs, and it's a relief to know that no-one was injured, and it doesn't appear to have affected the neighbouring buildings.

I started the thread because the incident report of "6 appliances and the Hydraulic Platform in attendance" made it sound like something far worse.

I spoke to the owner. There was nobody there. They are insured. Investigators are looking into the cause.
The road remains closed until the stability of the gable has been assessed. (It looks OK). There is a diversion in place so you can easily get through.
