Charlie,

It is worth giving Steve Daniels a call at Fineways in Hoveton.  He lives on site.

The little wooden day launch is the ferry that runs from the bridge to Barton House railway. I saw the signs today in Wroxham and it was open from 12 till 3. Temperature is dropping again in Wroxham. -2 when I drove over the bridge 30 mins ago. There is ice on the river at The Rising Sun in Coltishall but only on the inside of the bend. Good lunch though!
Brrrr!

Just watching 2 geese go past on the Wroxham webcam and suddenly the Vintage Broadsman comes back.
All lit up and very festive!

Lisa, we took a couple of photos on the way home today which shows Moonlight Shadow is not iced in.  The inner marina and around the edges are frozen, almost up to your boat.  The second photo shows clear channel to the river, which is also clear. Hope this helps, however it could change before you arrive ....

Sue, thank you so much for taking those and posting them.  She looks very lonely, doesn't she?  Nevermind, bought some new fairy lights with her in mind today.  We very much appreciate these pictures.

Things, I understand, are expected to thaw a bit mid week.  We'll keep our fingers crossed, but with so much expensive boat nearby the water will have to be absolutely open (and due to remain so) to chance it.

I drove across the Postwick Viaduct about 30 minutes ago and the River Yare was frozen over!  Scared
The temperature according to the car was -5c.

I've spent most of my money on Women, boats and beer - the rest I needlessly squandered.

I know it Christmas and the time of Jesus etc. but the seagulls in both Horning and Wroxham have clearly been taking lessons from him.

It appears that they can walk on water!!!

I haven't seen many ice updates from the Waveney - does anyone know what it is like in Beccles?

The weather chart for midnight tonight shows just how difficult it is to predict anything at the moment. There are twelve separate lows on the Atlantic chart, which is a highly unusual situation! Each low is weak and unstable, meaning that the atmospheric pattern can change very quickly. When lows are so weak - like this - it gaves a chance for a high pressure 'wedge' to form across the ocean, preventing the normal passage of lows [west to east] and dragging down more polar air from Scandinavia, as happened last winter. My guess is that the Jet Stream has still not re-formed properly, but it's difficult to get official confirmation of this: the implications would be quite serious for climate change.

Regards,

Paul
