Dear Griff mate!!!!!

I somehow knew you would have a loud hailer.. I imagined you standing directing the rafting. You have graciously described in words what I had in my head...

Many thanks for the written instructions for the directionally challenged (me).

Malanka will be remaining overnight and would love to tuck her tiny stern up against the staithe, whilst the crew run about do mad stuff and wait for dad to get the barbe out and fired up.

we have offered the hospitality of a warm barbe (son of hibachi x 2)and the opportunity for a big chin wag and silly games session on the terra firma stuff. We look forward to participating in the consumption of ample quantities of Lisas alcoholic concoctions which I am sure will make the silly games go with a bang.

Your reserve of Leffe trippel (Blue 8.9 %) will be in a bucket full of ice (I hope). I would recommend sitting down after consumption rather than the pub but that's up to you...

Thanks again for the organising.. Great stuff....

Life is too short

Graham,

You are more than welcome to borrow the tender.

You just need to try and raft up next to, or near to us......

Thanks Matt, i suppose i could walk to you , providing
i get permission from the skippers.
Re the radios, it could get very confusing with lots of
radio traffic, Lord Pauls idea seems the most sound we
have PMR so short range will be ok, the problem would
be contacting the main fleet if there were any delays,
i am hoping someone on the Ant fleet may have CB this
would then be the contact boat for the Ant fleet,
communications within the Ant would be on PMR, on
joining the main fleet we would then be on PMR, does
this make sense?
A list of Boats could then be announced.

I would suggest the following radio usage to try and keep some sort of radio discipline.

The following should apply to any radio type.

All monitor a fixed "home" channel(s) initially.

Fixed "home" Channel number for each radio type will be listed shortly.

If any one wants to chat with a friend, then make contact on the fixed "home" channel by calling their name.
Once contact is made then move to an agreed channel between yourselves.
After you have finished the chat, then move back to the fixed "home" channel.

This way you will not block the fixed "home" channel.

Hope this helps!

Please put your detail on the Radio Thread
Thanks.

Thought it was about time I got caught up with this thread properly and got my replies up to date, so here goes:-

Mar-09-2011 @ 8:43 AM  -  Said NBF Standard forum flag – see separate thread on this subject.  Ref booking pubs for meals on the Friday night, I suggest that those crews that intend having their evening dinner in one of the  pubs book the venues themselves, rather than the lot of us booking under one name, that way it can be done on a first come, first served basis and keeps the organisation / lists / logistics to a minimum.

Mar-09-2011 @ 10:31 AM – those skippers that can mudweight from the bow only – shouldn’t be a problem, there will be enough craft that can relocate their Mudweights to the stern and with that many craft it shouldn’t upset the balance too much.  Trip boats – as per later post, Toby the ranger is informing them and he states it won’t be a problem

Mar-09-2011 @ 11:41 AM  - It will take some time to get rafted up, although less than an hour I would hope, should be a breeze if we all follow my rafting evolution planning . . . . .

Mar-09-2011 @ 4:29 PM - S'pose I ought to go and stick a few more planks in.... Come on man, Digit out . . . . .

Mar-09-2011 @ 4:46 PM - On a serious point how do we raft in a straight line? Do we need to  ensure our sterns are level? Or what!?   Good Point.  -  This will be my responsibility, From my vantage point on the coach house roof of ‘B.A’ inter-ship communication system in hand I will instruct (by boat name) to dress Fwd or Aft as the case may be, this is easily done  by either ‘checking away’ or ‘down slack’ on the mudweight adjusting your head/stern ropes accordingly. So it is most important to turn off your engine as soon as you are alongside your neighbouring boat and no cd’s blaring out either please otherwise I won’t be able to be heard and chaos will reign supreme.

Mar-09-2011 @ 8:46 PM  - Hello MODS as Lisa says the date on the forum events read 24 July 2011 can someone do their magic and change it to 24 JUNE 2011 please. Yes, the printed date on the sign up events is July, that is of course wrong, this was a cock-up on my part.

The correct date is Friday 24th JUNE

I have lost count / given up the number of times I have asked a certain forumite who has the capability to alter this, to date it has still not been done, I doubt it will be changed at all now.

Mar-09-2011 @ 10:09 PM  - Maybe we need to consider the length of boats as we moor up with the longest either side of Albion and then the shorter ones slowly spreading out to the smallest like 'you know the one I mean' half pint so it looks slightly arrow shaped if we line up at the stern or V shaped if we line up at the bow.  Just a thought! I too had considered this, after much thought (1 x nano-second) decided against it as it would mean getting craft in a strict order approaching Salhouse Broad, or having craft milling around trying to hold station waiting for their turn to join the raft – chaos would reign once more. As stated in another post, it matters not a jot if a little-un is in between two big-uns, we are all carrying fenders, just pass the head and stern ropes from the outer big-un to in inner big-un and all will be fine

Mar-10-2011 @ 3:34 PM - Do I need to be wearing a  carnation  in my lapel or is there a far  more practical way of spotting the boats. Craft should display either a forum flag (Ordered from Richard) or a printed logo (Go to the bottom of this page to the red section and print one off).  As for identifying members, well at the meet the following day (Saturday) ‘Miss Clipboard’ goes round with sticky labels for members. If someone wants to do that for the C-in-C then be my guest. Another solution is to order one of the NBF polo shirts (from G.C) which will have your name on it. I have one, some of my crew have their  ‘B.A’ polo shirts with their names on them.

Mar-19-2011 @ 2:15 PM – No need for apologies, I just hope you can make it (Got a promise behind the bike shed) The list is flexible and can / will be updated / amended as and when required

M&F – Looking forward to meeting you and sampling the Brugge Triple – counting down the days.

Communications – Let’s not get toooooooo complicated here folks, Pmr, Vhf, CB, mobiles, Inter-ship-com system, semaphore, Aldis lamps, telephone, etc etc.  The fastest method of communication known to man is – ‘Tellawoman’ Anyroadup!!!!  The flotilla commodores will be organising departure times from their locations. So timings all hinge on the eta at Thurne Mouth of the southern flotillas, this will be coordinated by Jenny Morgan, (No pressure J.M). The relevant flotilla commodores should then communicate between themselves informing their charges by whatever means they see fit.  Ncsl has started off a separate thread for comms during the C-in-C for those that wish to participate – Good move Ncsl – Thanks.

There is no need for any order of craft in ‘The Snake’ as someone on here eloquently put it other than ‘BrandyWine’ who will be flying the NBF Standard and needs to be at the head of the snake. The only other requirement is for ‘B.A’ to be directly behind BrandyWine. Why? Well when we arrive at Salhouse Broad, as previously mentioned for the rafting up evolution we need those two heavyweights with their two mudweights either side of the Albion.  This means of course that during the flotillas transit from St Benets I will need to get myself behind BrandyWine, so please don’t be giving me grief for overtaking whoever is between me and BrandyWine.

We will have our ‘Dress Ship’ bunting flying for the event, might even have a look at displaying some fairy lights for the evening too.

The way ahead for the crew of ‘B.A’ as per calls made this morning is for us to BBQ at Salhouse Broad as there will be ten of us onboard so cooking out of our galley with that many crew will be awkward. BBQ-ing for ten will need a decent barby so I will bring my Weber in our tender.

Berthing Slots – Let’s not get too excited about reserving berthing slots, there will be plenty of room as some craft are not staying overnight, some intend mudweighting overnight and using tenders, we also have the option of craft putting their bow between two berthed boats (Well fendered) with their mudweight over the stern, this gives us the capability of having seventy odd (Yes 70) craft alongside terra firma.

Lastly, when posting and referring other forumites to page numbers on here, not all forumites have their preferences set the same, for instance I am currently on page 4 with this particular thread, it is easier if you refer to the date/time of previous postings

Right that has got me up to date with the organising side of things, as per the norm suggestions and input from all is welcome.

Griff

Now with a new thread started about radio communication things will start to get compicated.
I suggest that all communication ref. the flotilla is between Griff as organiser and the flotilla Commodores only.

Griff, you are a star!!!

I am afraid my weber won't fit in the car never mind a tender!!!!!It was delivered on a pallet by a fork truck.

We would need the services of Jaguar to unload and load it ...
We will make do with the son of hibachi, makes a good patio heater later too....

So looking for ward to this I could burst!!!!!

Malanka crew will be wearing Malanka Polo shirts (maybe even a cap if I can bully them into it...)
