Unlikely Paul, the principle of "Setback" is to not give the wash of passing boats anything to bounce off.
Interesting that as some of the information on the PDF was showing "bank erosion".
Due to no quay heading ???
Just wondering as if you look at the Ant, where there is quays then there is less erosion than where there isnt !
Banks being wash away, roots on the bank being exposed at water level and trees falling over due to loss of banking.

I remember when they dredged it in the eighties )1980s' before you all start) they just built the bank up with the spoil, it was bare for a while but not long. We found some lovely bottles and clay pipes, I actually found a whole one.

If you still have that full bottle Barry, then I would suggest you put it on ebay.
It could help found Springsong.

Full bottle 1980 - 2010 I doubt it in your house certainly not in mine.

But the crucial point is that the "unprotected" bare
river banks are not the actual river bank any more. Wherever they EA have scraped the vegetation and left a 45 degree mud slope, the real river bank is now about 10 metres back, beyond a shelf of mud that will fill with reeds, to provide a soft rebound for boat wash.

This is a real shame. It was one of the last places you could moor up and leave the boat, go for a long walk and not worry about being clobbered. In the evenings we have often watched the owls over the marshes here and the last time we were there in Sept a really large dog otter came up right along side.
Only one thing to do now with the Ant going the same way, heavier ground tackle and anchor out.

The Eastern bank of the Ant has already been done, and the bare scraped river bank has now recovered it's vegetation completely. The Western bank is now mostly cleared, but looking very bare.
One small consolation for fishermen though, the original river bank is still accessible from the footpath on the new floodbank. The EA have put in about four transverse earth banks between the old and new river banks, between Ludham Bridge & How Hill, as shown in this photo. It's still possible to get out to the original riverbank, one or two nice little swims have already appeared.
