Have just returned from a week on the Broads and I think special mention should go to the Wroxham Bridge Pilot,a very sociable young man who goes the extra mile to park your boat where you want if need be and doesn't just hop off and leave you to it.

Recommended.

We are just back after a week too and it sounds like we were lucky enough to have the same pilot. He gave us some useful tips (and a demonstration)for mooring up and departing in high winds - a top bloke.

Regards

Mick

The older of the 2 at Wroxham is also good, he isn't allowed to take a private boat through but did offer a lot of advice and useful tip's on how to handle it.

This video was filmed a couple of years back and hope Don has improved his skills navigating the bridge. Thats if he is still there.

I must say I wasn't particularly impressed when we were moored outside the hotel at the beginning of Augutst.  The pilot on duty that day was simply ramming the quay on the faircraft side of the river (sometimes leaving paint behind) after bringing boats through and then jumping off.  He walked away leaving the boat broadside across the river on a windy day causing carnage!  Maybe it was an off day!  But I certainly would have words to say if someone did that to any boat I was on, hire or private.

We had a similar problem with the older guy a couple of
years ago. He took us through the bridge, jumped off at
the hotel and just left us. Before I had a chance to get
control of the boat wind took us into a private dinghy
with a crunch as I tried to pull away. All very
embarrassing and an insurance claim at the end of the
week!
