The other evening, while we were enkoying a few brown ones the subject came up about weird things that we've seen in the rivers.

All I could come up with was hitting a cow (well a calf) floating dead on the Yare (I was close hauled and didn't see it until the thud!)

And the other was a carpet cleaning machine sticking out of the mud at low water just north of Yarmouth.

Any others ?

How about a lunatic swimming right across the Bure down near Upton in the height of holiday season last year?

Ha Ha Ha!  We saw that carpet cleaner at Yarmouth Yacht Station.

The most unusual for me was the mooring posts I WAS tied to at Oulton Broad before they snapped in high wind! Smile

I saw a dog fall off the back of a cruiser. The boat just carried on and left it behind. Luckily, it was near our slipway so it managed to climb out and it ran off down the bank after the boat.
It was lucky not to drown, it is hard for dogs to get out where there is quay heading on both sides.

Have just seen this trhead.

Last year we were sailing on Horsey and we noticed a man swimming with no boat nearby.  We offered a lift which he refused.  We were sure that he had nothing on which was why he refused a lift.

On the way out back towards Hickling, we noticed a loo seat floating and shortly afterwards, a porta-potti.  We had to assume that he and porta-potti had fallen off a boat and become separated!!

I remember a couple of years ago seeing one of the Hunter yachts up near Wroxham towing an inflatable armchair...

When my kids were younger, they had those powerful Sea Searcher magnets on the end of ropes. There was nothing they liked more than fishing in the rivers to see what metallic treasures they could find.

The largest item was a double bed found near Repps Staithe. Also large was a park bench found in Wroxham.

By far the most common items found were rond hooks. They got loads of these and started selling them in the second hand shop (no longer there) at Ludham Bridge.

Many other things came out like car keys and tools of various sorts.

The kids have grown up now so the metal treasure of the Broads is safe once more.
