New to this doubleberger site (after being a bit cynical to start with, but quite impressed), I notice my status shows as "newbie"!
Which is fair enough but how, or when does it change to a different statememt such as boat or local expert etc etc which other contributors shows as?
I'm hoping theres no exam necessary to prove ones self???!!

Roy, I know, amazing! Actually I have to say - I am no local expert, unfortunately. Boat or hirefleet expert maybe, if I can be so modest(!), but local expert sadly not.
Perhaps one improvement for the site could be a choice of different statements where you select the one most suitable.

Well we will leave that one to Richard.also Dan down here in Norfolk we have another set of waterways called the FENS also spot on. given the time we could leave DENVER SLUICE and come and see you in MANCHESTER, by water.thats why i love living here, one hour in any direction and you can be afloat.there is also talk of a new waterway and marina being created in KINGS LYNN where we live.to join the Fenland Rivers,cheers for now roya.

Maybe you folks could come up with some ideas for naming members on the umber of posts - one of my family suggested "boring old fart" for my posts, guess who'll be walking to school next week !
Dan, just wondering why you were cynical about this board ? we're all rather friendly, and don't seem to complain too much !

hi all what about where you live ,i.e BROADS lover from Manchester.just for you that one DAN. cos it is nice to know that so many Boaters enjoy the NORFOLK BROADS and are interested enough to come on this site and enjoy a natter, no matter where they live.i am one of the lucky peeps to live in NORFOLK.all the best cheers roya.PS whats an umber RICHARD. only joking.

Hi Richard,
The first time I looked at the site was a few months ago, I can only think you must have just started it as it was a bit sparse and most messages were by yourself.
a few months on it seems to have really taken off and there is lots of interesting comments on here, all pretty relevent and none of those rubbish or offensive messages that the other message boards get clogged uo with. So sorry for clearly being too impatient and cynical in the start of it.

Indeed you are lucky living so much nearer the water you love. I know youve mentioned the Fens a few times, from Ely. I want to try some new waters AS WELL AS the Broads in 05, but whilst we dont mind peace and tranquility too much in the day we like to go out and do more exciting things in the evening!!! The Thames is great for this, the Broads OK, but whats the waters around Ely like - is it too quiet for us do you think. Also Nridge Boats only appear to have Sunray that is of recent, and bit more luxurious construction. I know youve hired from them, do you know the boat and is it any good. My fear is that its the kind of boat where you can't even sit up in bed (let alone anything else!!) as the berths are under the deck etc etc.

hi Dan the Fens are a different boating holiday. if you want luxury you will have to hire a narrow boat from yards like FOXES at MARCH . This does mean of course you have to navigate DENVER SLUICE to get on to the OUSE and our rivers.Denver is no big deal but you may have to hang around for tides and water levels E.T.c.before the lock will used.Bridge Boats are basic but well loved.as for night life IT MUST be ELY OR CAMBRIDGE i really do not know ,there is a boater called Shakespeare on the site who may know more about it. when we are on the FENS it is all about big skys and peace and quite.by the way you got our new quiz right.if i was nasty i would slip a couple of River LARK photos in???? cheers for now roya.

True, Roy, we have hired from Bridge Boatyard: the boat was quite old and basic but perfectly acceptable - we were lucky with the weather.
As for night-life, I really don't think I can help as my sort of evening involves a chat over a pint or several of Admirals' Reserve, Broadside, Abbot...the list goes on for some time. Try the Prince Albert in Ely, no too far from the waterside and a real gem of a pub. By coincidence, some of the staff share other (non-boating) interests with us (involving leaping around waving sticks, bells, etc., also drinking) and we have met them in Warwick and Bromyard as well as Ely.
