Hello, I am writing an article about alternative places to spend Christmas for Suffolk/Norfolk Life magazine and would like to hear from anyone who spends Christmas on a boat on the Broads. Why do you do it? Any tips to pass on? Best Moment and worst moments? Thank you
yours, Rachel

Sad, so incredibly sad! Best tip I can give is is not to mention that certain festive season before December 1st.

Sorry - I would love to "not mention Christmas till 1st December" - unfortunately a December magazine goes to press in early October!

I believe Suzy mega-watt (of BBC East and soft furnishings fame) would like to spend Yuletide on the broads. And even if she didn't, she probably would, just to get in the Christmas edition.

Well we as of yet haven't but we really want to. Whether we go for both Xmas and New Year or just one of them remains to be seen. As for mentioning Xmas on here in Sept ??? AAARRRGGGHHHHHHHH Griff

I have to admit that as we are just buying our first boat and intend to use it occasionally during the off-season I have already scoured this website, looking for suitable venues for NYE's, where we could moor up, have a great evening and sway back to the boat after! The only place I have come up with is the Bridge Inn at Acle which has a party. Any other suggestions, greatly appreciated. Suzanne and Adam

Don't worry Rachel, certain members will realise before the end of the thread that they're being unnecessarily grumpy, see threads passim, ad nauseum. We spent our first Christmas afloat last year on a hire boat and plan to do the same this year, unless we buy, in which case we will be spending Christmas and New Year on board. Highlights include Xmas dinner at Sutton Staithe, being able to moor side-on at the New Inn (in fact being able to moor anywhere we wanted), quiet rivers, our first trip to Dilham. This year we've booked at The Swan, Horning. Is it just deemed very sad to discuss Christmas in September, or is also so sad to already have next year's holidays booked for June, August and October. Just a thought. Lee

Hi Everyone, Quite agree with not getting into Christmas in early September - but must say that at the Quayside Club we've just taken two bookings for the Christmas period in 24 hours! Seems Christmas boating could well be very popular this year - might even do a bit ourselves! Gordon www.boatlineuk.com

There are good fireworks in Ludham on New Year's Eve. Right outside the pub too. Nigel
