We are planning on mooring up and taking the train to Norwich for a day during our holiday . With 2 teenage girls aboard they have informed us that they will need at least one day of civilisation and "proper" shops . (apparently ones selling fishing tackle dont count !). Can anyone tell me whether Wroxham would be the best place to moor up and catch the train as looking at maps there appears to be a train station nearby ?

Wroxham and Hoveton station is pretty convenient for the centre of the village (easy walking distance from moorings), so I reckon if you're on the North it's as good a place as any. There are bus services from many of the larger villages though. And if you're here in the next couple of months, don't forget to check out the elephants (you think I'm joking!) at http://www.goelephants.co.uk/

Go through Wroxham Bridge and moor up more or less opposite the entrance to Bridge Broad. The station is just a short walk away. In Ludham, we have a bus service to Norwich which runs every half hour. Get the bus outside St Catherine's. Same is true for Stalham and Horning, both have good bus services to Norwich. On the river, places on the Broads seem miles apart, but by road, the distances are short. Nigel Ludham

The only issue with Wroxham is whether or not your boat can get under the bridge to access the public moorings. We knew we could not get under the bridge with the boat we hired last year, but did not realise how hard it was to find a mooring downstream from the bridge. Mark

If you are unable to go through Wroxham bridge moor in Faircraft Loynes boatyard, on the port side as you approach the bridge, they have two basins to moor in. Regards David

I don't indicate whether you will be North or South If South then don't forget from Loddon there is the X1 express bus every half hour it takes about 25 mins to get to Norwich.

Bus from Wroxham is better in as much that it is a bit of a hike up to the city centre from the train station, whereas the bus station is in the city centre. Bus time table for Wroxham/Norwich - http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/easterncounties/easterncounties/timetables/timetable.php?day=1&source_id=2&service=54&routeid=32574&operator=22&source=sp Make sure you ask for a 'day ticket' - cheapest way

Thanks everyone for the advice . We will be up North sorry for not mentioning that. We did think of sailing down to Norwich but as this will only be our second time afloat we dont feel brave enough to venture that far . A bit worried about the tides around Yarmouth and navigating Breydon Water . Love the picture of your Labrador by the way . We have 2 black labs ourselves , arent they just the best !
