I seem to remember that some hirecraft, and maybe privates too, have bathtubs. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of using one on a boat as I should imagine they're rather small, and somewhat impractical due to the amount of water needed. Any thoughts?

Of of boats we hired some years ago (can't remember if it was the Royall Sceptre, Royall Stuart or one of the Moonfleet boats) had a sit-down bath in it. We just used it as a large shower tray rather than a bath as it would have taken rather a lot of water to fill it sufficiently for a decent bath. John

hi richard , likewise the same as john mentioned , my folks hire from Royalls , and always have the same hire boat from them , they use the shower side of it , it can swallow up a lot of water if you wanted to use the bath , cheers

Hi Richard as to your comments on Baths on board Cruisers Royall Velvet has got one but it is handy to step in and out quite easily whilst having a Shower. By the way Richard roya has got Two outside Water Barrels for him to have his Bath lol. Andrew.

Hi Richard Some of the bigger hire boats in the fifties and early sixties had I guess you would call them hip baths Monarch from Banhams in Horning being one and some of the Fairwinds from Graham Bunn in Wroxham, Which incidently is where I slept on my first Broads holiday in 1949 aged 9 months and sharing said bath with the spuds. I don't recall much about the holiday but do have photographic evidence of my presence. Regards Barry

Hi Richard, My Last boat, a 1996 built 29' Alphacraft formerly Ferry Mutineer , had a bath. Allowing for the fact that they take up much more room than a shower so hence the bathroom must be larger than is the norm, and you will use your full tank of hot water filling it up, having a bath during an extended stay on board is a rare luxuary which IMHO is worth the expenditure of the extra space required. If the numbers ever came up and I got to build my own broads boat then a bath would be included (and a larger hot water tank ). Rod

i know it is not the broads but, three years ago we had a change of venue and did a week on the oxford canal starting from rugby with rose narrow boats. the boatwas called "JOEY" and it was equipped with a full size bath, lashings of hot water in a roomy bathroom, fabulous. alan

Swan Roamer & Rapture both have baths, and you can have a reasonable bath in them. We have hired them both and the bathrooms are a very good size they have also been fitted with larger water tanks and in the case of Roamer a water gauge, so you can keep an eye on your usage; although we have always tended to top up every day. We have hired Georgia Girl this year which also has a bath, I have a bit of trouble with the old pins, and sometimes all that eases them is a soak in a hot bath, so a bit of a god send for me.

hi Richard the Belair that used to run out of sabena had a full size whirlpool bath or somthing of that type. did not try it my self, but her indoors did. it took ages to fill and acording to her it went cold rather quick. not suprised at that though she has a large skin area. plus when she pulled the plug, a 3ft bore went hurtling down stream from Acle towards Yaremouth. clogger
