Guys... what is the current situation for anyone heading northbound through Ludham Bridge who has a mast and needs to be moored while lowering it?

Is the best place to do it at the mouth of the Ant, or have things improved near the bridge over the last few months?

The gate to the river bank path south west of the bridge is still fastened shut with a 'private' notice since last winter. (It's not a Public Right of Way, but access for about half a mile had been allowed by the land owners for many years.)

Although there's been a great deal of bankside work in the area, nothing appears to have been done there so far.

It's been a very popular spot for land-based spectators to view the Ludham turn of the Three Rivers Race for the last few years.  I imagine suddenly being confronted with the closed gate may come as a bit of a surprise....   Frown

we usually drop he stick when going up the Ant towards Barton on the east side of the river just before the Nancy Oldfield boats. There's usually a patch of grass that's been flatened by a fisherman, and Chris does a grand job of taking a flying leap of faith to stick in a rond anchor. Maybe this year I'll let him get back on the boat before we cast off.

You might sneak in on the east side, Richard, if you're VERY lucky, but don't plan on it....and the west side has post and wire fencing for a couple of hundred yards downstream of the bends.allegedly due to unafe quay heading, although it's no different to what it's been for years...and upstream now full of permaently moored boats.

....best recommendation (if you can't drop the stick on the move) is to do it out on the Bure before you turn up the Ant

Apparently the new fencing is the result of someone turning an ankle when leaping off and threatening to sue the landowner, so he's covered his back by banning mooring....:-(

Don't lets speculate where they came from otherwise Richard might take his ball and go home. If you are going to practice shooting bridges start with Acle it's a lot easier.

Thanks guys (though any further up-to-date news would be useful for all of us who need it.)

My diary hopes for (at least) two round trips through Ludham Bridge this year (spare a thought.. those of you who can do it without putting it in a diary). Both of the trips of which I speak will be with a crew that have never dropped a mast anywhere, so we'll be tying up.
