Grand accolade for Broadland!

Jenny Morgan,
A vane, a boat, but not a bird.

The Broads is NOT a National Park, but it is a National Treasure!

There is another piece here.

Captain Howe.
The Broads are:-
Not a Theme Park.
The Broads need the winter to recover, the numbers are becoming too great and the grey water too damaging.

Good to read an acknowledgment that people are important.

Another excellent endorsement!

Just a thought though, the 'green' pound, 'green' tourism etc., I wonder, taken as a whole, has anyone ever tried to evaluate the carbon footprint of tourism? It must be immense!

Especially when linked to 30 year old, non filtered, inadequately silenced, Perkins and BMC diesel engines.

No mention of thirty plus year old Seagull outboards then? Five miles to a pint of oil!!

The holiday industry is hardly self sufficient, it is largely if not completely dependent on people who travel.

Don't have a problem with that, does give rise to a wry smile when there is talk of green tourism though!

Re those thirty/forty year old boats, going to be an awful lot of 'em reach their end of life at about the same time. What then, all that discoloured white, yellow and orange g.r.p. to be disposed of?

Fair comment Jenny, as a user of a Seagull on the back of a small sailing cruiser for 10 years in the 70's early 80's it is not so much the 2 stroke exhaust but the amount you spill trying to refuel underway! Even with the big tank fitted you still lost about 25% in the drink if any sea was running.
The Japanese have plans to grind up old GRP boats and use it in road servicing but I am not sure if they have done any yet. Sounds like a job certain people would do for nothing!! I would volunteer if I could grind the orange ones.
