It was a Richardsons, and a platinum boat.

Their answer was they didn’t have enough staff.

But with covid shouldn’t extra precautions be in place?

Thats no excuse from Richardson's,  thats terrible,  how come you can go to a family run yard with fraction of staff and get highly quality turned out boats ,

I dont know if leaving the EU (this is not a political post by the way) but previously I know they use to have a team of folk from Lithuania and they were excellent.  The guys at Richardsons said they were the most efficient cleaners they had ever had.   Now whether they are still there or have returned home I am not sure.    We hired Reflection in September and it was passable.  The only rub was , you queued in your car and then was told to proceed around to Swan Quay whereupon chaos prevailed as nobody but nobody was ready for us all.

Organised chaos.

Was a time when the end of a holiday routine was a Friday night feast to clear the food locker and drain the booze whilst on Saturday morning, as the boat headed towards the yard, the crew would clean the boat to within an inch of its life, it wasn't a chore, it was all a part of a Broads holiday. It's a bit like the camaraderie of mooring three abreast at Gt Yarmouth or stern to bow at Ranworth and clambering over each other's boats, happy days of yesteryear.

Indeed echoing Jolly Roger in my youth a big part of the fun of a proper broads boat holiday as a kid was taking a cheap (olden) yacht and with some chrome cleaner, Vim brushes and small pots of varnish and white paint returning it looking pristine. But then the whole point was an activity adventure not just 'swaning about' bored stiff because you could not get a signal on your I-pad or whatever.

Good old days they were, Bill, but not always. On rare occasions had Hazmat suits been available then I suspect that the cleaners would have welcomed them! Perhaps the anticipated return of the deposit was also a driving force!

We have always, and will continue to return hired cottages, or boats , as clean as the day we started out. Sometimes better, lol.

We've had comments from private Cottage owners saying how grateful they are, as well as mentioning other situations where holidaymakers have, for example,  cooked a full breakfast on the last morning then simply got up from the table and left!

Richardsons blaming a lack of staff is really not good enough, and in these circumstances should have offered customers the option to wait for a full clean, or take the boat not fully cleaned but offer a small refund if the customer was prepared to complete a clean of the boat themselves - after all if they haven't enough staff then they are saving the outlay of wages.

In these covid times however, I feel that the companies have a clear responsibility to ensure that a full clean is carried out, even if that means offering higher wages to attract people. They are a big enough business, happily taking the custom, and not exactly short in the coffers ( what with the offset, as well as lower tolls they've been granted to mention just one thing !)

Sadly, as is often the case nowadays, the bigger a company gets, the less efficient it becomes. We have used Richardsons in the past and had no complaints, but where possible these days we try and use small businesss in everything that we do - I feel you only have to look at the big supermarkets for example to see how the big boys squeeze the smaller businesses by either wiping them out or screwing them over if they are suppliers. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it is hopefully that we need and therefore should support our local small businessss. This should also impact the environment more positively too.

Hi Greybeard it does not always follow that the bigger the company the poorer the service.  I know it is not strictly a reply regarding boats,  But I have used a pub chain for quite a few year now called the Hungry Horse Chain.  They are possibly  one of the largest chains in the country and the cleanliness, service and quality of food is second to none.  Its a pity that the broads pubs don't take a leaf out of their book with regard to pricing, service and scope of menu.  Its a pity ther is not one in Wroxham or Stalham!!!

with respect warrior,, Imo there's enough junk food in wroxham already!

they are owned by greene king I believe,and purveyors of this heart attack on a plate!

Is there such a thing as a healthy burger, or indeed a high cholesterol offel tube.(The noble sausage). I think not, and I do not think that you have to go back six years to find such a burger they are with us this very day in many guises.
