I've been saying for years that it should be a dual carriageway.

Before we all panic in the context of the number of boats already at Stalham Private and Richos and the different change over days how much difference is this really going to make in practise, not a lot I would suggest, I could be wrong but I believe some of the Horizon boats already operate out of Stalham, lets all wait and see before we start changing underwear. I am sure Richardson`s have thought this through before making the decision, like a couple of other large yards that have diversified I don`t see them making the decision lightly without taking everything into account. Cynical I may be but, I am willing to bet that profits and land value came before customer satisfaction in their decision to switch bases with possible chaos on change-over days being given hardly a passing thought. Accountants, not customer service managers run companies.

I have asked this elsewhere without response. I am sure I read somewhere a while ago that Richardsons were planning a base on the southern rivers, possibly in the Brundall area. Anyone else recall this?

we hope that this will be for the 2017 season only we went from there for the first time in April and going again from there in October were very impressed by all the staff and condition of the boats it will be a shame if RICHARDSONS CLOSE IT FOR GOOD. Wehave been going from Stalham for many years and find everything there really good but it will be crowded if Horizon do shut down and certainly THE Ant will be very busy in peak season be lots of boats queing to get under Ludham bridge .

We hired a boat from Acle in May and found all the staff very polite and welcoming. For us it is a 'best position' boatyard as it allowed us to cruise north and cover a logical pattern - Bure to Wroxham, then Ant to Stalham. We gave the river Thurne a miss owing to the sailing regatta.

I haven't looked into this thoroughly however I would say it is a business decision as Stalham gradually downsizes due to the sale of older craft more room becomes available. It will be tight adding 50 boats however I suspect several will be sold off and Richardson's have run over 300 boats from Stalham on several occasions. Remember the Acle bankside moorings are owned by the farm not Richardson's. Nonetheless a great shame as Acle was arguably the better yard and ideal for cruising South hopefully some moorings and yard facilities will remain Neil

Just a thought .... Could horizon craft yard be a temp respite for private boat owners who currently moor at Richo's private yard at Horning which will be ungoing new mooring work . ?

I may be wrong here but looking at the plans Ricko's put in for the replacement cottage at Acle, I would say the move is just for next year as the building work is right by the entrance to the yard. You cannot have the public passing so close to the building work for fear of an accident. The demolition and rebuild would take about 9 months or so, in my opinion, so use of the yard would be a no-no.
