Firstly welcome, I forgot my manners earlier in the week.

You asked the same question under a different title earlier in the week.  I did give a short answer and the reply is still there if you use the last 72 hours or 7 days buttons.  Here's the link anyway.  Boat Origin Thread

JennyMorgan's reply will be much more fruitful than my earlier effort.

Had a great week on Compass Prince (not sure which one) in, I think, 1988. The layout and accommodation on this boat was excellent and very spacious for 4 people in a boat of 30 ft.

It was very hot all the week we were there and at times needed the canopy partly closed to keep the sun at bay!
It was operated by a hand winch and the cable snapped when we were moored at The Pleasureboat at Hickling.

The boatyard attended quickly and repaired it for us so we were soon on our way again. Happy memories.

regards, Yorkie

Hi Compass Craft was indeed based down Woodsdyke at Horning, the guy who owned the company was Andy Beardshaw who now runs Pennisular Cottages, unfortunately he had to sell the company due to health reasons but then went on to be general manager at Moores of Wroxham, he is a very nice guy and if you contact him I am sure he would be only to pleased to answer your queries.  http://www.peninsularcottages.com/

Yes they were where freedom operated for a while. The cam into existence when the old Norfolk broads yachting company who were in Wroxham stopped hiring. This was seen by some of the boats in the early years of operating. They were good and as has been said said Andy is still around. Then in 1991 Chumley and Hawkes were forced to shut and they took over their fleet and had to run both at the same time for the year. Over the next few years other boats came in and even houseboats for the old Turners yard. Then they stopped and the reason has been given already.

In 1989 we hired 'Compass Congressman' It was a very nice boat, with varnished cabin sides, and a folding wheelhouse, that meant it would pass under Potter Heigham bridge.  (I wonder if it would these days?) I am sure that it was  ex Norfolk Broads Yachting co. I remember talking to Andy Beardshaw, who told me that his father owned the cruiser that became 'Margoletta' in the B.B.C film. it was kept in a boathouse in Horning, and you could see in the varnish that name. It was an ex Moores boat, and named then 'Janca'  in 1998 it was in a poor state at Potter Heigham, as part of the 'Museum of the Broads' display, when they were using one of Herbert Woods sheds.  I often wondered if it had been saved?

Just had another look through my photos, and here is one of 'Janca' (Margoletta) taken at Potter Heigham in 1998.
