There was a yard about five years back which had a couple of Narrowboats on their fleet. I believe they even got hired out a couple of times!

They ran from Martham Ferry Boatyard as I recall, and I think were called Gibraltar Straits & Malacca Straits. The boats were bought from Dartline on the canals, I think around 1993/4. I wasn't sure if the boats ever actually ran as they were only advertised for one year, so wasn't sure if they did run. Knowing the fleet they came from (the company I worked for inherited about 60 boats from them and had several headaches as a result!) I don't know if this could have been the reason they ran such a short time. Or did they just not book? Anyone actually see these boats running?

Dan, I never saw either of them, so don't know if they ever ran - over the years I've seen several narrowboats as private craft on the Broads - the most commonly seen was Genesis (U616) which was based at Coltishall. I've also seen two or three of the trailerable narrowboats on the Broads, but they look very out of place on the wide rivers!

Cheers Craig As an ex (sob) narrowboat owner I'm not convinced the Broads are ideal for these boats, although I think they'd cope! Trying to stern on moor onto some public moorings with such little width and a rounded stern I guess makes it impossible, or just good fun?!! Anyone ever tried!
