Can definitely echo the suggestion of The Mermaids Slipper at Stalham. We have had special occasion meals there and cannot fault them in any way. I'm not a big fish eater but there has always been other things to tempt me and I've never been disappointed. We've been on our own, with another couple and with a family group. Special ambience and very attentive staff/owners.

My sis also recommends the Bure River Cottage in Horning,  having eaten there a few times , including recently, whilst staying locally. Unfortunately we never manage a Horning mooring these days so I can't give you an up to date review personally.

Have a great time on your birthday, and a super holiday, Karen

Ok, I decided to ring and ask if this was a temporary thing but I was shocked to be told that it isn't ! They are just going to be a takeaway permanently ! What an utter shame.

As if there isn't enough takeaways...

The place was sold by the long term owners and so it's clearly all change now after this year. . I fully appreciate the challenges that Covid has caused, particularly for restaurants and hospitality. Such a waste of a lovely building in a very individual setting, which was quite special and nothing at all like a typical high street takeaway. It's a bit out of the way for takeaways so I do hope they can survive.

Ah well, that's that then. So sorry to see it go.

Karen

The Fish restaurant in Horning is superb one if not the best on the broads, also worth trying the White Horse at Neatishead, good food and beer
