Popped into the renovated café at Acle Bridge over the weekend and it was a pleasure to meet the new proprietors.

It was nice to see it open again and the food was enjoyable, it would be good to see it used and prosper retaining the existing building and its history rather than see it pulled down and replaced by the proposed visitor centre.

Hi Brian

Thanks for the report on the café.  I just wonder how many have a mental note and assumption that the building belongs to and is run by the BA.  Given the proposed Visitor Centre divides opinion, this potentially may have an impact on trade for the new proprietors.

I would certainly hope that nobody would even think about not supporting a new venture because the property that they occupy belongs to the BA.

I do not know the people that have taken on this project but the first report back is positive so give them your support.

I should have mentioned they also sell a small range of basic provisions that they are looking to expand on once they identify what people want so input from anyone visiting would be of help.

Forresters, I don't have any official confirmation but I am given to understand that to build the visitor centre would require the demolition of the existing buildings, as long as the café/shop remains in business and the current operators retain the lease then the visitor centre seems less likely to happen.

Are you sure its even a proper lease? I thought it might be a concession?

Don't forget why the site was sold in the first instance - the previous owners could not make a go of it, and the building was not in the best of conditions!

As I said I cant confirm any of the legalities only what I am given to understand, the current proprietors also run a very successful business at Winterton and have made a good job of renovating these premises, I am reasonably certain they would not have invested in this venture without some sort of assurances.

The main point is as always use it or loose it, they already have a small customer base of locals but need the casual trade as well, we moan about the loss of facilities but only have ourselves to blame if we don't support the ones we have.

For the avoidance of doubt I wasn't saying that I personally wouldn't visit the café because I thought it was BA run.

However given the publicity over the purchase of the site by the BA and the proposed use, it is a reasonable assumption that many will think it is the start of the regeneration and BA driven.

This post is a positive statement that the café is under new ownership and as with all our waterside amenities is deserving of our support.

Best wishes to the new owners.

Visited on Wednesday, very clean inside and outside.
Tea and cream cakes sitting beside the river.
What could be better.
Thumbs up from me.
Good luck.

Only downside, it started raining, if they can sort that out it will be a big benefit.

In the past we have visited their cafe at Winterton, and will be trying them out at Acle as soon as we can. Always good to know of riverside stop-offs, so we are looking forward to it, especially based on the feedback in this thread. We passed by on the road a couple of weeks back but had no time to stop, though it looked pleasant and people were enjoying the outside space.

Good luck to them.
