The Berney Arms cafe is closed due to flooding from the storm a couple of weeks ago.
Stop there and you will be charged £10.00 to stay overnight or £5..00 for a short stay.
Instead use the free moorings just beyond the BA 24hr, run by the RSPB. He reckonds he also owns the BA 24hr and is not a nice person to deal with,

Just for clarification, is he charging for boats mooring at the BA 24hr mooring?

it must be illegal for him to charge fpr the BA moorings as the notice there specifically says Free 24 hr moorings we often moor up at the Berney one of our favourite places I am sure my husband would not be amused if some one came and tried to charge him for moorings at the free ones !!! does not sound like a nice person and if he carries on like this people will stop going

I doubt very much if anyone would have the gaul to charge for mooring at a 24hr mooring that is maintained by the BA.   I dont think these people are horrible, from what I have read about them they seem nice folk.    Let us give them a chance,  it cannot be easy scratching a living out there.    You wait until the Winter months, wouldnt envy them being there at all.

Berneyarms posted on this forum back in February. I did hear that visiting boats could moor for free if they used the café. Perhaps the owner of the café could clarify the position and how much of the quay is owned or rented by him.

The moorings owned by the freeholder of The Berney Arms stretches from outside the pub to the BA FREE public mooring. The mooring the other side of the BA FREE public mooring belongs to the RSPB and is also free.

What arrangements the tenants of the café have made with the freeholder of The Berney Arms, I do not know and therefore their legitimacy to charge there is unknown. If they have paid to rent the mooring as part of their arrangement with the freeholder then I guess they are free to charge or waive the charge dependant upon usage of the café.

Word on the Rhond is that the same people are also offering moorings for rent in a boat yard at Loddon. I do know that one of Bill Maxted's old boats that used to be on the hard standing going to waste has now found it's way down to The Berney Arms. With or without Bill's knowledge I do not know.

There is enough free mooring in the area that I would think it difficult to charge to moor outside the pub.

The Facebook group who are trying to purchase The Berney Arms have acknowledged the existence of the group running the café, but very much distanced themselves from them. Likewise the group running the café seem to be freely inside the pub and claiming to reopen it when funds allow. What agreements they have with the freeholder is very much anyone's guess.

There is an old Cher song that seems to sum up the situation at the Berney now. I'll leave people to do there own research on that one.

I used to moor at The Berney Arms many times over the course of a season. This year it has been just once.

Just because The BA make a request, don't automatically assume they have the powers to make such requests!! Keeping a careful eye on an Authority which is making it's own rules.
