Has anyone been here recently for the Sunday carvery.  On the Broads in August with family and we're thinking of stopping off for Sunday lunch.  We've had the carvery in the past, but not since the change of ownership.  Any up to date comments would be welcome.  Thanks Smile

Been there twice since changed hands and as good as ever!!! Only small difference I've noticed is that they've been doing leek with a cheese sauce rather than cauliflower cheese. Leeks probably cheaper at the moment I suspect.

Leek with cheese sauce!

Leek with cheese sauce!!

That's rather a tenuous link to being Welsh.

Leeks with Cheese sauce are delicious and very traditional, not a cheap alternative just an alternative.

Thanks Newsteaduk for your reply.  Glad it's still good.  I'm not a great fan of leeks in cheese sauce or otherwise, but there's plenty of other veg choice, so not a great problem.  Booked a table to be sure and now looking forward to our lunch.

Pleased to say that we had an excellent meal at the Sutton Staithe Hotel on 11th July. The mushroom with stilton & ale starter was very different. They still need to improve on welcoming people coming in. It is not clear whether to go find a table or go order at the bar, (it appears to be get spotted by staff and be shown where to sit) but once we had apprised the staff we were in the building and wanting a table for dinner, we were promptly shown to a table. Service from then on was spot on and food was excellent.

Went to the Carvery this Sunday and I must say It was not as good as it use to be. They have put the price up to £9.95, and have taken the Roast Lamb off the menu. The vegetables were okay but did not seem as freshly cooked as they used to. Potatoes and Parsnip did not seem cooked enough.   We had booked a table for 1.00pm expecting the Carvery to be full as it was last season (NOV 2016), and there were only about 18 or so people in there, which probably explains why the veg didn't taste freshly cooked as it had probably been sitting in the warmer pans for a while!!!  I think they have shot their selves in the foot and seem to be losing their customers. We will not be going back again anytime soon.  Frown

Agreed ,not as good as in the past, used to look forward to the Lamb ,but only know of Castle Carveries now doing Lamb on Sundays. Must admit the outside is looking better and more inviting than in recent tines .

I'm sorry to say that £9.95 is far too low a price for a quality meal, unfortunately far too many people see a £10 limit for a meal but it is hardly going to  make any establishment the standard retail markup.

My point Dorsethelmsman was that the quality of the carvery used to be good and £2.00 cheaper than it was on Sunday just gone. I would have been happy to pay the £9.95 if the quality had remained the same, which it did not!!!!   Frown
