Went to the CrossKeys Dilham last Tuesday for a meal,
ordered Beef Wellington at £18.95 asked what veg it came with only to be told none. I had Duck Breast on Mash at £14.95, ok but nothing special for that price. Not a very welcoming pub a bit dark with no atmosphere, not sure it will survive at those prices.

I know that pubs find it tough nowadays but give good beer and good
Food and you will get more customers,  plenty on the broads do try and there are some that you wonder why they bother going into the hospitality business?

Well here is the menu from their web site.

http://media.wix.com/ugd/a93adc_2576c517f39b411092eeb3e675a5d815.pdf

A three course meal say for four with drinks....
Imagine... you could be spending well over £120 plus drinks !

I really don't mind spending that much when the food is really special, and the ambiance is right for the occasion.

But some pubs seem to take what looks like frozen ready meals and serve them.

best regards, Richard.

"Hi"
In total agreement with you on this, we went there the other week and will not be heading back there too soon, whilst there at least two other tables had a moan about the food and the prices.

Kindest Regards Mike

The pub now has a small shop selling the basics, it's open when the pub is.

I could not disagree more and think it most unfair that you only give half the facts! We go to The Cross Keyes regularly, we have never had a bad meal! We have found the owner very welcoming and the atmosphere great! There is also another lower priced menu which you can partake of in the bar or restaurant. Also tell me another place where on a Friday night you can get fish, chips, peas, salad and a pint for £7. 95p!!!

Yes they do a Friday night special, for Fish and Chips only.
At other times the F&C is around £9.95 from their bar menu, without a pint.
The following cut  and pasted from their website.
Now that looks good value, but not my favourite pints though.

"Back by popular demand, every Friday night at the keys
A Great British traditional Fish, chips, peas & a pint
(Fresh North Sea cod fillet, beer battered & served with chipped potatoes & peas. All washed down with a pint of our finest)
(Pints available – ipa, stella 4, carling, coke, diet coke, or lemonade
£7.95
The cross Keys
The Street
Dilham, Norfolk NR28 9PS 01692 536398
Available between 6pm & 8pm unless ordered in advance"

best regards, Richard.

our favourite eatery, hand battered fish, pie of the day, sausages, half roast chicken or vegetarian lasagne, unlimited vegetables from the full carvery selection (includes chips, mushy peas and baked beans as well as regular carvery fayre) and a pint of Stella 4 would be £5.75. Based on the two for £7 mains and stella 4 at £2.25 / pint.

Available all day, every day. Including Friday evenings.

Once again you are not comparing like for like! Fish pie isn't fresh fish! Also There is unlikely to be a holiday area in the country where pubs sell a pint of beer at £2.25p! At your prices it is no wonder pubs are closing down!!!

I gave up being a publican in 2001, at that time I wa\s selling stella at £2.30 a pint, and wasnt making a fortune out of it. So yes if pubs in some places want to comit finacial suecide its small wonder so many are becoming private houses. The broads be quite seasonal like my pub was need to charge a fair price for food and drink.

That way they will still be there for future generations.
