Thanks for the link

Frustrating for other river user's

But obviously caused by a dispute as to who was to helm under the brdge, and until resolved decided to stay there LOL

We first saw the boat across the river when we rounded the corner half a mile upriver.. By the time we got there, 4 boats were waiting to come upriver and two (including us) downriver. This two minutes is at the end of a saga lasting at least a quater of an hour.
Everyone at the stores thought it was remarkable and said the boat had already collided with the boats on the opposite bank. That's why we kept well out of the way (on wrong side of the river)
Just about 40 minutes after this the darwin award winner I mentioned earlier fell in at the same spot.

I telephoned the bridge inn this morning to reserve a mooring for
thursday night as we will be coming through yarmouth late at slack
water to be told they dont reserve moorings,  obviously they only
want my money in the winter when they cant afford to be so
choosey.

Not very helpful to a family of 4 wanting to eat and more than
happy to pay our way,  its little things like this that annoy the locals
the minute the season starts.

Yes, have had the same response very recently. They would be happy to book a table but not a mooring. So what should we do - swim there? We are out on a boat!

Many boaters would consider Acle a good first place to stop after a Breydon crossing and run up to the Northerns. If you want to get through Yarmouth and a good way up The Bure then it's the obvious stop, but the times a boatload of such trippers may get there will be governed by tide times so it's not always possible to arrive mid afternoon.

I am not suggesting they keep a mooring space till late - there could be a cut off time early evening (in the height of the summer)and I can understand they may not want to do it for 2 people only, but what about a group of 6 or 8?

Looking at it from their point of view, perhaps there is/could be an issue with no-shows, but what about a good bit of customer care and trying to find a way this could work?

As I understand it, most pubs rely on profits from the food sales more than anything else. I am also told that many pubs on The Broads are suffering from folk tightening the belt and eating on board. And most of the pubs suffer in the winter, when they then expect/hope that boat owners will use them, even though in the summer they refuse us moorings, wanting only day boats (that is not The Bridge, as far as I know but those of you who read the forum often will know what I am talking about).

C'mon landlords/managers - if we want to spend money at your establishment, and particularly if we are regulars/locals who may call more than once in a season, is there not some way you could work out a solution?

BTW folks, I am not saying a pub shouldn't do this for holidaymakers - The New Inn does this very well and we visit as hirers aswell as owners - I am just stating the case from my own angle.

It's a market economy, supply and demand. As has been said previously businesses on the Broads appear to take the short term view and try to maximise margins for the quick gain. Then cry when their establishment is empty due to folks either not bothering with them or worse still boycotting them. As has been said before value for money wins out in business.

Remember it's not the employer that pays the wages, it's the customer. The employer just handles the money

I have said this before so I hope that I am not being boring...
Landlords adopt policies that best suit their business. They would be stupid to do anything else.
We boat owners often believe that we are pivotal to riverside pubs success. We are wrong. We are merely just one part of the picture.
If we, who know the system, book all the pub-side moorings what sort of experience would first timers to the Broads have?
Just because we own boats (or hire regularly), that should give us no priority over others.
Do not forget that we have a free run in the out of season times. We should just make the most of that.
