When coming through Breydon the number of places that one can put the mast up are limited, so we usually stop near the Berney Arms.

This year we came through at about 9 am on a Sunday, moored up and started to put the stick up; while mooring I noticed some rather tatty 'reserved mooring' signs lying in the duck do-do, left over from Saturday night I presummed, then something rather unsual happened.

This rather rotund gentleman rushed out of the pub :-

"can't you f*****g read, you f*****g moron"

Two thoughts went through my mind, firstly here was a man who forgot to take his medication, and secondly that this conversation was not starting well.

I politly explained that I was just putting the mast up and would be away in a couple of minutes. This didn't do much good as he went into an invective riddled tyraid about the fact that the moorings were reserved.

"Well..", I said, " I didn't realise that the pub would be open at 9 am on a Sunday, I guess we'll come in for a drink"

At this point he started to get rude. Most of what he was saying was hard to understand as he was using "F**K" as a punctuation mark, with "off" being appended to some words that I've never even heard off.

Also I believe that some of his suggestons that he made to us are not physically possible.

His parting remarks as we drifted away were :-

"you b***er off, you f***g w**ker",

"our pleasure", Bonnie responded with a smile.

And while pointing at the forum flag on the side of the boat :-

"and tell your f***ing friends that they're not f**ing welcome here, I'm not going to f***ing serve you w***kers - now p**s off out it, these are my private moorings."

All this in front of my eleven year old daughter who was in tears.

So, this posting is to alert all our friends or "any of our kind" that they are not welcome at the Berney Arms.

Hiya Richard, Bonnie and crew!

Hope you have had a good holiday and the weather has been kind to you (we've been keeping an eye on the forecasts and I think you've had some good days?).

More to the point, hope you have had lots of lovely meals, a fair few beers and some good banter with nice friendly Broads folk and visitors, other than this p**t at the Berney Arms. There is no excuse for such bad language infront of children. We had a decent meal and a few beers when stopping the Berney Arms overnight last year, but your story has put us right off for any future trips.

The guy certainly needs his head examining - perhaps he underestimates the power of messages between "our kind". At his peril I say! We know we have members the length and breadth of the country, all regular boaters, so "b*****s" (thats Bubbles, not what you thought!) to him!

Enjoy the rest of yuor time in the UK, it was great to  meet you all at Stokesby. Hope Neeta has enjoyed it too...

Toodle pip for now,

Karen & Mike

cheers!

Dear Skipper of the mightly Lapwing,

you forgot to mention that the "token yank" (or is that the Karaoke Queen) was too afraid to come out of the cabin during the tirade for fear of her life!

cheers! Nita

Karen,

No problem with the name spelling.  I usually end up as "Anita" or "Juanita", or just "hey you".

I'll take most forms well.

cheers, nita

Ciao, Nita
