I hope that PwC and Punch Taverns don't manage what the Luftwaffe failed to do all those years ago. I would have thought that, with a location like the Ferry, someone with some cash behind them, a bit of imagination and a more robust business plan than Punch has, could make a go of this.

Knowing PwC and other firms like them, I suspect that their main concern will be to make sure they get their fee and move on, so they won't hang around trying to sell a site that didn't fly off the shelf first time round. Hopefully, with the bottom fallen out of the property market, the temptation to sell the site for residential development shouldn't be quite as strong as it would have been a couple of years ago. Fingers crossed anyway.

Regards

Steve

On Todays BBC Norfolk news it was said that as no buyer had been found .it could possibly close for good. You would have thought the mooring income would have given it a boost in the income department alone above most other pubs. Confused

Hope to see you on the river,

Yes the mooring income will help but the trouble is you all want free moorings if you buy a packet of crisps - this argument has been aired endlessly on this site!!!!!! I doubt the mooring income even pays for the upkeep and/or replacement of the quay heading every so often. How many boats does it hold? 12? for say 100 days a year on average? £6000 !!!!!!!!!

You all question the vast profits, huge rents etc etc of these pub companies but look at it another way. Whats it worth on the open market? £1m ?
Borrow that money at normal commercial rates , add on return on capital employed, and you soon get to a rent of £2500 per week before you even start!!!¬ And I am not even an accountant!!!!

This time of the year they do lunches of £10 for 2 - how many do you have to sell a week given the tight margins?

Not condoning anything but Horning already has two pubs, probably better than the Ferry? How do you compete? Certainly not by selling a few extra pints of real ale!!!!

Sadly its a case of use it or lose it and that is not just in the summer!!!!!!

I replied to this thread yesterday and my answer has disappeared, now, if it has bean modded, and no trace of it can be found then I shall join Jenny Morgan and like my suggestion, disappear.

Let's try it again,  requote "If the local Brewster Sessions (Licence Magistrates) granted the licence to one person, the publican, and not the owning group, then the publican would have a little muscle." end of quotes, make what you will of it. The next time you mod me, tell me or where the hell is that Teddy Bear.

I can't imagine why such a statement would have been modded.

Magistrates dont issue Pub Licences any more they are issued by the District Council who issue a Premises Licence and Personel Licence to the Publican

Well someone on here wanted to buy a pub and it looks as if this might be a freehold for sale.  Could be a buyers market especially if you have ready cash!

As far as I'm aware, no post of yours has been modded or removed. There was no need on this occasion.

Rest assured though, should the need arise and any of your posts do break the TOS, they will be modded regardless of your threat to leave the site. Remaining or leaving is your choice. Personally, I'd rather you stay but it's your call at the end of the day.

Absolutely no offence intended, simply a statement of fact.

Have a lovely Christmas! Cheers

John

No worries whatsoever, no need for apologies either.

I'm very glad you're staying with us.

All the very best,
