Well I hope that they are little'uns and not Labs or German Shepherds as the boat is likely to be some way (6 feet) below the quay and throwing a large dog ashore or back on board is a challenge. The same goes for Granny if she doesn't like steel rung ladders. PS I have just noted your avatar. Good luck!!!! How would you like to be an egg? * You only get laid once. * You only get eaten once. * It takes 4 minutes to get hard. Only 2 minutes to get soft. * You share your box with 11 other guys. * But worst of all.... The only chick that ever sat on your face was your mother. So cheer up.....Your life ain't that bad!!! However, I agree that limited planning permission should be easier to obtain for off-river residential moorings but only by a third party (e.g a boatyard or marina) so that control over unsightly and tatty boats and residents can be maintained. I think the problem that the BA are concerned about is that if permission is granted then they don't have any future comeback or control. They either have to provide permanent moorings themselves for residential customers or trust third parties to provide it. A browse through the Blakes and Hoseasons catalogues should reveal all in your quest though! But back to the question, does the perfect boat exist? Yes, of course she does, she'll be about 30 feet long, draw about 3'6 , be gaff rigged, have two hundred years of Broads heritage in her design and fit under Potter bridge! She is a project boat and needs work done that I do not have time or facilities for. That said, she has a nice little diesel engine and a current BSS certificate. She is cruisable but needs a top-side repaint and new rubbing strake (old has been remoeved). Hull was repainted dark blue the year before last and deck fittings have been renewed with chrome or SS varients. Currently moored at Broads Edge but moving to Hickling shortly. I am open to reasonable offers and am not expecting silly money. If interested or for more info email me at cgrant@the-soundings.com She will do someone proud. ( a distance of just over 2 miles). So, for any local boy racers to irritate and worry the local residents, including Darren, that is indeed the route they would take. Back to the point in question though, that's a short isolated parallel section to the A149, and it would hardly be a practical way of avoiding the new cameras for anyone traveling from even just Stalham to Yarmouth. At the Potter end of your rat run they would have to join or exit onto the A149 from a minor side road, which wouldn't be quick. At the Catfield end, they would have to additionally go through the narrow ziz-zag of the village centre and then rejoin the A149. So if you wanted to get from point A to B, rather than X to Y, the A149 would be always be quicker and simpler, unless it were blocked. As regards the same could be said for the back road through Sutton , no way !! Unlike the first Boy Racer route, that route has houses either side along most of it's length, and the parked cars make it almost a single track road in places. Try to drive through there faster than 30mph (the signed speed limit there), and the residents will soon take their own action (and rightly so ), and then you'd pass the Police Station (in the 20mph limit), just before the Stalham mini roundabout, then you've got to get back onto the A149 again, having skipped only about another couple of miles or so of it. On the map, I've marked the two rat runs mentioned, with green blobs. You can also see that the rest of the side roads zig zag all over the place, and are just not practical for anyone trying to save time.
