Topic: BMC 1500 repairers or replacement parts

I found the oil level in my bmc 1500 diesel had increased, on my last run there was a strong smell of diesel for a time,  and as we moored up was losing oil pressure. The yard found the injection pump end seal has gone. Anyone know who repairs these or has part exchange replacements, the engine is a 1973 model.
We had a similar problem a few years ago and had the lift pump replaced, these old engines do not like modern biomass diesel, the bugs destroy the old seals.

I think calcutt boats have virtually everything. There are a lot more BMC engines on the canals than the Broads

  Hi

When I had my BMC 1.5 Diesel’s in the Hampton 25 and Bounty 30, I used either Calcutt Boats who would supply anything from a single screw to a complete refurbished engine! More locally I also used ASAP Ltd over Beccles way, put they wouldn’t supply everything, unless you were a registered marine engineer, which was very odd indeed. I wanted a spin off filter conversion ASAP said no Calcutt Boats next day delivered!

Guess who got most of my business. Did most of the work my self, old engines are on the whole a lot easier than modern ones!

John.

Kind regards, John(Captain
Joshie) , Jo & Ivy the new dog ??.

You can obtain various additives to make the modern low sulphur stuff more friendly for the older diesels. Any chandler should be able to help you out with those once you get your injection pump fixed.

Take the pump to Boulter’s in Horning they can get it serviced for you, I had mine done a couple of years ago just over £100 if I remember correctly.

In a nutshell
The Moore the merrier.
