Hi all - heading to our first boat jumble sunday to the essex one - are they big affairs? Do you get stalls selling new items or is it all like a boot fair? As dont know what to expect, bit of both would be good!

Simo

Dibbler    -- Feb-23-2018 @ 7:06 PM
The ones we’ve been to contained a mixture of both treasure and tat. Some items are no cheaper but..you can pretty much guarantee that there will be some bargains though so good luck.  Smile

Likewise , same as John said , we used to the Essex one when it was held at north Weald airfield and and Kent one at the hop farm paddock wood , did find some bargains like new fire extinguishers and lifejackets  , but was some tat there , but worth a look around

  Boat Jumbles 2019
There appears to be no Newark one in February
this year, or even later in the year come to that!

Perhaps the 2018 can be removed pleased?

  Sorry,  but...

I'm not prepared to pay £4/5 per person to browse things I may (or may not! ) want to buy. Even Harrods don't charge me to have a look around.

Yes, a quid or two to park (as is the norm at car boot type sales) but a tenner for the two of us to go for a look around a "marketplace" ? Nope , thanks. So we haven't bothered with these advertised boat jumbles for some time now.

I can accept that supporting an event at The Museum of The Broads is a different matter altogether.

Hello.  We went to the Museum Of The Broads jumble last year.  It was just £1 per person to get in.  Not a huge amount of stalls, but it was nice to have a look around and support the museum.  I don't know how much it will be to get in this year.  There was a small jumble at Oulton Broad this year, this was free to get in.  Again, it was a small affair but good to have a nose round the stalls.

Yes totally agree on the event at the Museum of The Broads or other local sales. Just seems to be the one central organisation of the Boat Jumbles as listed that charges 4 or 5 quid per person.

Just my view.  Gasp

There is a boat jumble at Beccles Yacht Station on Sunday August 11th.

Tim, the harbour master, is organising it with stalls at £12.00 and free entry for browsers with a rattle tin for donations to the mayor's fund for the play area should anyone like to pop a quid in.

If I am a "woody" how come there are no "fibreglassy's" "plasticy's" or "steelies"?

Cheers, Karen

Hi Karen, It's £4 for adults, children and parking are free. We went last year and wandered round in the rain for a couple of hours. When we left, the car park was a sea of mud. Luckily we were in a friend's 4x4, but some folk were struggling a bit!

Funnily enough Southampton charge you to view lol

L

Karen&Mike    -- Apr-9-2019 @ 3:08 PM
Thanks Steve, not sure it's worth £8 , especially if we could get the car stuck in a field if wet, lol. Mines fine and chunky but it's having work and MOT,  so we would be down in Mikes "nice" car which may not fare so well! It's already got to fit all the boat stuff being taken back down after winter and as it's a saloon with no folding seats (!) we are already abusing it! ( or strapping our upholstery etc to the roof  Gasp  ).

Does anyone ever pick up any decent bargains at these things or are they just cheap boaty market stalls ?
