  Not sure if the previous post is exactly correct. Barnes /  Hoseasons will contact everyone with a booking in due course. I think a day or two to settle in might help before being bombarded with phone calls

  I had already booked Royall Ambassador booked for April this year. I contacted Barnes Brinkcraft yesterday and they are waiting for all of the paper work to come through. I had confirmation that all bookings will honoured and letters will be sent out in due course.

I think I was a bit too quick off the mark as they only took over Royall's yesterday. I'm sure they would appreciate a bit of time to get sorted. Smile

  I have spoken with a very pleasant girl at BarnesBrinkcraft, who told me that all affected customers, such as myself, will shortly be getting letters both from Hoseasons and Royalls.

The news is, of course, disappointing to old fogeys like us, just as it was disappointing when Brinkcraft, from whom we used to hire (Brinkster 2, Brink of Time, and Brinkeeta 2), was taken over by Barnes in the early 70s. (I can't tell you exactly when because Bill Maxted's got all my old Blakes brochures!!). I'm beginning to get a bit paranoid.

Royalls regulars will be relieved to know that Paul and Steve both have jobs with BarnesBrinkcraft.

  Yes this is very sad indeed we have been boating with royall since 1977 when we hired royall standard and in 2007 alan royall sold me his boat redadmiral good to here about paul and steve have gone to barnes.

  I'm getting a bit of a complex with Boatyards closing down or selling up. Confused

I hired boats from Topcraft at Oulton Broad for many years but they stopped hiring out.

I then hired boats from Swancraft at Brundall for many years but they stopped hiring out.

I hired from Royalls for the 1st time last year and booked a boat for this year. Not only have they sold up but a year earlier than expected. Gasp

I think it must be me!!! Scared

Anyway good to hear some have still got their jobs. Good luck to the prior owners of Royalls  and to the new owners whom I look forward to meeting in April. Cheers

  Off topic, Maddie, you have me to thank for your boat being called Red Admiral.

Since things were busy at the Royalls yard and I live in Reedham, Alan rang to ask me and the wife to ferry Red Arrow, as she then was, from Jimmy Pearson's yard through to Hoveton.

It was a nice warm day and we were thoroughly enjoying the trip, when, as were pottering up through Yarmouth, a police-style siren sounded behind us, and a BA Ranger's launch came alongside. "Was this our boat?" "What were we doing?" "Did we know the boat wasn't taxed?"

We were able to satisfy the Rangers, but we were convinced Alan Royall had put them up to it. He swears he didn't, but I still have my doubts.

Anyway, as a reward for doing him a favour, I was allowed to choose a new name, provided it was reasonably close to the old one to avoid a lot of expensive sign-writing. Hence: "Red Admiral" - and, after Janet and Alan had refurbished her for themselves, a very nice boat too.

  HI Boat_mad, After reading your post it would seem that you are very unlucky with your choice of boat yards when you hire as they all seem to close down shortly after. A bit of advice PLEASE stop hiring boats, because if you carry on there will not be any yards left to hire from and the broads will suffer from lack of tourists/business.   Before reality kicked in last year, I had my heart set on an Aquafibre Diamond 35. I viewed a very nice one at Lodden but it was then withdrawn from sale.. In the meantime I decided to hire Royall Oak from Royalls so I could see exactly what the model was about. We had previously hired Silver Emblem from ferry for 3 or 4 years.. After speaking with Sara at Royalls she said that since they were selling some of the fleet " Oak " would be for sale at the end of this coming season. I asked if I could be added to the " waiting list " and was advised I was 1st. Woo hoo. Two or three weeks before I was due to hire ( last October ) Sara was kind enough to call and inform us that the yard had been sold as a going concern and Oak was therefore no longer for sale.Boo Hoo ! I was offered a full refund as that was the basis of the hire, which I thought was a lovely gesture. I decided to stick with the hire and was not disappointed. A fantastic boat, so good I've got it again in April alas not with Royalls. Since we live so far North we later decided that although we love the Broads, it's not an option yet for a few years so everything happens for a reason!!

  We too have received the relevant information from Hoseasons and B-B for our two bookings this year. All well and good, except that whereas Hoseasons say "all booking details remain the same", as I read the B-B material we won't be getting the early start Royalls provided (a minor matter really) and we will have to pay for car parking (a definite change to conditions), so not entirely pleased.

I received a reply confirming that they will honouring the free parking for Royalls customers. Cheers

  we had a similar situation with a booking with moores that was then taken over by Barnes. On arrival at the yard Barnes tried to charge us for parking.

  I too was affected by this and am rather 'miffed' since Royalls assured me in person (as well as in their Blog and on Facebook) that they would be operating until the end of the 2017 season.

Have you checked your start days?  Barnes' web site shows that since the takeover they have changed as, I suspect, takeover times have changed as well.

In fact I have changed my booking to one of Barnes' Elite boats, albeit at a much higher cost, mainly because we were regretting booking the particular Royalls boat anyway.
