Topic: What used to be The Stracey Arms

boat-mad    -- Jul-5-2016 @ 10:22 AM
I saw The old Stracey Arms sold at auction on TV's homes under the hammer. It is Series 20 episode 21 which was shown today but can be seen on BBC Iplayer.

It was sold on December 10 2014 for £169,00 and includes 6 acres of land and 400 meters of mooring.  The purchasers intended to make it into a Hindu Religious Centre.

A great amount of land and property for the money.. Smile

Kind Regards
Alan...

It now has a sign on it saying 'Hindu Temple' but, apart from that, doesn't really look any different to how it did a year ago.

The building was revisited by the presenters from homes under the hammer in Feb 2016.  Apparently £70,000 had been spent to date but still work in progress. Confused

Thank you for the link, Hylander. It was an interesting watch.

One thorny question was resolved, the moorings belong to the temple, the cafe owner collects the mooring fee, which is then shared between the cafe and the temple.

It seems a very positive move, with the possibility of food being on offer to boaters during the summer. I hope their project succeeds.

I found that quite fascinating, thank you for the link Hylander. Nice to know the property is being put to good use at last. I can imagine a few unsuspecting boaters popping in thinking they are going to find an Indian Restaurant!

went past on Friday. As reported on here, there's a sign up but it still looks the same.

Did you say there's a cafe there now too?

Dreamer    -- Aug-3-2017 @ 12:04 PM
The cafe is at the Mill. The Hindu temple is private and has notices to that effect. It has always seemed very quiet when we have passed by, in fact I don't believe I have ever seen anyone there.

Dreamer    -- Aug-3-2017 @ 12:06 PM
Temple was the wrong word to use I think. As boat mad reported in the original post, it is a 'religious centre'.

boat-mad    -- Aug-14-2017 @ 8:52 AM
I believe the café is till there. Smile
