Topic: Somerton - Winterton, ruins of priory?

In the late 1960s I remember going on a walk from Somerton on the river to Winterton on sea.  Just outside Somerton I seem to remember there was part of a wall of a very old ruined building, maybe a priory or something.  does anybody know anything about this?

I think you may be referring to the ruins of St Mary Church, East Somerton.

Have a look at this link:

There is tree growing in the centre of the old church, we were always told a witch with a wooden leg is buried there and the tree sprouted from the leg.

I made a fisherman smile.....once!!

Thanks churchy, always interesting to hear the legends that grow around ancient sites.

It's on a good walk from Somerton to Winterton

You can go North along the beach and loop back for a circular walk.

Thanks for the map link, I am certain it must be the ruin I remember seeing 40 odd years ago.
