Worth a visit

Landlord and landlady Ian and Chris and staff are very welcoming and friendly. Good beers including real ales. Good pub grub at very reasonable prices. Good bunch of friendly locals. Altogether well worth a visit. After Whitsun will be open every day 12-11. Food served every day 12-9.

My son and I tried the food last week. I had chicken and leek pudding and my son had the rump steak (rare). The meal was excellent and the steak was cooked perfectly ( which in itself is rare these days). All at a very reasonable price. Staff spot on as usual. Top marks.

Quiz Night

We booked a table here last Wednesday night and took part in the free pub quiz. It was really busy in both parts of the pub. We finished a respectable 3rd in the quiz itself. There were 25 questions plus a picture round.

Free quiz night

We decided to have a couple of drinks at this pub recently and ended up participating in their weekly quiz. Drinks prices were fair, but the quiz was strange as the quizmaster kept walking from one room to another to ask the questions as the teams sat in separate rooms. The good news is that the quiz is free to enter! There is a separate room for a pool table which we did not use. There was a Play Your Cards Right afterwards which was entertaining but had to pay a £1 per ticket - what a rip off! (and we didn't win!), we also never found out who won the quiz! Some quiz night!

In Response to G. re The Falgate Inn Potter Heigham

My Husband myself & friendshave stayed here on numerous occasions including the most recent only a few days ago. The Pub is an oldy worldy pub which at the time of our stay the rooms were being redecorated, it is not a 5 star hotel and should not be compared to one. It is a freindly clean village pub with good, helpful freindly staff, the rooms are comfortable & clean at a very reasonable price, considering the delicious full english breakfast all included. The Beer prices we found to be on a par with most of the other establishments we visit. We found the food second to none with huge portions, freshly cooked to order & from the locals we spoke with ours is not the only opion of this.We feel all in all that the value for money service is terrific so much so that we have booked again for Easter 2009.

Falgate Inn

Stayed here in the B&B Jan 2009. Rooms clean but not of a high standard of decoration. OK for the price, if you are not too fussy. Heating in Bathroom on the blink. Television on a wall bracket at the pillow end of the bed, making it very difficult to watch. The window was so warped it could not close. Bathroom basin en suite was too small for ank kind of practical use and the communal bathroom was used to shave in. Staff very nice and locals in the pub which made all the above bareable.

Mooring Description :
Arrived by land so not relevant
Food Description :
The food was good. Had Sirloin £15.95 and Rump steaks £11.95. Top end of Pub food prices but very nice. Chips were homemade and very good. Breakfast was also quite nice but the coffe was indescribably bad. May have been an off taste from the stainless jugs or the water. Lovely warm fire and friendly staff and service. The Adnams Broadside was £3.10 a pint which is severly overpriced and would quite honestly put me off returning for their beer. To put this in context our local in Hertfordhire serves the same beer for £2.80 a pint. The Green King IPA was cheaper but not sure by how much.

Ok

This used to be one of our favourite pubs but now doesn't seem to have much atmosphere and is very extpensive for drinks - not tried the food as also looks pricey. Nothing really wrong with it - or right.

We called in last week (June 2007) and had a bar meal along with the odd tipple or two. Food waas very nice, and good value. The barmaid was very apolagetic for slow service/wait as she was on her own, but to be honest it wasn't bad at all. Very friendly. Also visited in March 2006 and think it will be our regular stroll when mooring in Potter Heigham from now on!

Mooring Description :
We moored at the Herbert Woods boatyard - free for Hoseasons & Blakes craft, then about a 5 minute walk (or so). A large hirebase so normally good for a mooring spot outside the busy start days.

Good Pub

Walked up here for the Wednesday night quiz. Although we were not locals we certainly didn't feel excluded. They also do a version of Play your Cards Right with entry by raffle ticket. Service was friendly and efficient. Beer quality was very good although we felt that the Broadside was a tad expensive at 2.90 a pint. Good pub though and well worth the short walk.
