Fantastic Grub

We were stuck for where to moor that was close enough to Yarmouth for the tide times/passage, but where grub was available. Normally we would have looked further away, having considered Loddon. Advice from the guys at Yarmouth Y/S was not to. So we settled on Reedham, but were worried about the Ship having read other reviews. So we called in at the Nelson, and had a pint early afternoon and perused the menu. The place was welcoming, the staff friendly, with nothing seeming too much bother.

Mooring Description :
Moorings are often described as dangerous due to the tides. With care though there should be no problem, just approach against the flow, slowly and respect the danger of the fast flowing water. Moorings are manned by a BA Ranger who will offer advice if asked.
Food Description :
First class pub grub at a good price. To be highly recommended.

Amazing hospitality - amazing people of Reedham

We decided to moor up a couple of days before having to take our hire boat back to Loddon, found a mooring outside the Lord Nelson and popped in for a pint. It was a Thursday and there were chalkboards advertising a jam night, I love live music so we decided to stay there for the evening. I'd somehow managed to get one of the boat yards covers covered in something or other and was distraught about taking it back like it. My partner decided he'd ask Ros (Landlady) if she would be kind enough to wash the cover for us (he hates seeing me stressed lol), I was so suprised a) he'd had the nerve to ask and b) she very very kindly said no problem! What a top lady. The evening was fun, even joined in with a washboard and sticks lol. The locals seem to love the variety of people to talk to and made us feel most welcolme. So welcome in fact we stayed another night!! Can't comment on whether children were welcome as we don't have any and to be honest don't tend to go to the type of pub where there's a designated kiddie area (no offence intended). Overall, we're back on the broads end of September and will definately be back to say hi and hopefully have as much fun again.

Mooring Description :
a good amount of moorings were available but it was quiet this year because of the Great British weather I guess.
Food Description :
Food was good, a decent menu choice nothing overly fussy. Good old pub grub.

Awesome pub! Way too much fun!

We went here after trying the Ferry and Ship and not feeling to comfortable at those tho they were also nice pubs just weren't as boater (or maybe because I'm Cdn) friendly? But loved The Lord Nelson, best time on S Broads! Sitting riverside was great 2! The people, customers and staff immediately made us feel welcome! Didn't have cash so ran a tab until end when we paid on card. Ended up being a hefty tab even tho good prices as drinks were great and stayed all night until close having so much fun with them watching Cole Stacey play! Amazing acoustic singer/songwriter who we're now getting out in Andover at our local! Very honest also as after paying the owner came over and asked if our tab had been right and not over-charged as quite large, we're like Ya, it's right, bought alot of drinks 4 people! But thanx 4 asking! lol Bought quite a few drinks for us, locals and music act, good times! lol Dog friendly also, make sure you check out Nelson the dog, luv him 2! I didn't notice the dog smell prev comments refer to, just smelled food from the kitchen, smelled really good! Def stop here prob a couple times next trip, absolutely loved it, what a great find and absolutely lovely pub! Very clean, TONS of ales and good drink selection! Most fun pub we found on our week out with great locals there who were a treat to get to know abit, hope their still there next time! Thanx for an awesome last night on our boat trip, I'll def never forget it despite the amount of booze consumed! lol Next time I'll plan my trip to coincide w the Reedham Riverside Beer festival they host as would be so much fun I'm sure! x

Disappointing

We popped into The Lord Nelson a couple of times during our 4 day visit - initially intending to try out the food which had been recommended in another post, but were driven out by the off hand attitude of the bar girl and extreme smell of wet dog that seemed to be constantly apparent in the pub. (We love dogs but don't want to eat somewhere that smells like a wet one all the time!) Our next visit was on the following evening which had advertised a live Irish Folk band with singers/musicians welcome. We received a better reception this time from the barman who was friendly and efficient which is more than can be said of a regular local man who made rude comments as we walked through the door and continued to be obnoxious to the boaters and disruptive towards the entertainer throughout the evening. We learned from others that this individual had put several people off frequenting the pub during their stay, particularly some of the other women who felt intimidated when no attempt was made by the bar staff to curb his unpleasant behaviour. There were several varieties of pump beers sampled by some of our party who said they were very tasty and reasonably priced. The full band failed to appear although a couple of musicians did turn up late to accompany Jon who did a great job of keeping us all entertained on guitar and vocals with his unique style of Irish/Folk music and remained unfazed by the obnoxious local. Verdict: Good music and beverages but not particularly clean or welcoming.

"Sylvanne" at the Lord Nelson

We went down to the Lord Nelson at Reedham last night to see Jon Colorick and was treated to the Irish style Folk music of Sylvanne. This 4 piece band "Dawn, Amanda, Ted and Paul" played guitar drums and violin to some great songs. That and some very nice Humpty Dumpty beer from the village brewery made it a very cool evening. Bill has booked Sylvanne to return on the 26th of June wich we will be coming back for.

The Lord Nelson is back to the good old days.

Bank Holiday Monday I was down the Lord Nelson at Reedham for a beer. The pub had Jon Collorick playing folk music for the afternoon and the weather was good, I had good friends with me and stopped to think that we are very quick to put down a pub but we don`t often praise. So I thought I would. The beer was perfect I was drinking the Green Jack Orange Wheat Beer. Bill and Roz have been in the pub for a year and have made it a home. They have become part of the village. All the best. We had a great afternoon and look forward to many more this summer.

Great night out.

Visited this pub last September when they were celebrating The Battle of Britain anniversay. The beer was good and the atmosphere was great. Had live musicians who played all the old wartime favourites. Everybody joined in and it was one of the best nights we had on our holiday.

Honest Pub

Coming from Manchester, pub crawls usually last 20 or more pubs. In the serenity of Norfolk, two's the limit. Called in for one, after the ship, before leaving for Norwich (Jun 06), didn't eat but the last time we were in Reedham (Jun 05) this place was boarded up, so pleased to see the new owners(?) were very enthusiastic and very friendly. Will be back for more June 07.

Nice pub - best bit is sitting outside right by the river. We visited in June 2006, had recently changed landlords and they seemed very friendly and to be working hard at creating a good impression. They also were very honest and tracked us down outside on them realising they had charged us too much, when we hadn't realised! Will definately revisit.

Moorings are available free right outside the pub. As it can be quite tidal here we were glad of the help of a Broads Authority Ranger who seems to be there for most of the main holiday season. We didn't struggle to get a spot in June.

Do not eat here,I would not recommend the restaurant to anyone!!!

On our first visit we sat outside with a drink which was really pleasant. The staff were pleasant enough, the weather was lovely and it was really nice being able to sit by the Broads watching the boats.

Food Description :
We visited the pub a second time for a meal, which was a complete and utter disaster. The restaurant decor appeared quite dated and there was no atmosphere, it felt like sitting in a tea room. We placed our order, which after 5 minutes we were told there was no rice, so all meals with rice you couldn't have (which about 50%) plus no chicken. We managed to reselect, and waited over an hour for the food to arrive, there was nobody else eating at the time, so it did seem rather odd. The tagliatelli and bolognaise sauce had to be sent back as the pasta was so overcooked it was just watery and bland, the bolognaise sauce, had no flavour just large lumps of mince, frankly I have never tasted anything so awful. The pasta and homemade tomato sauce also had to be sent back as it was the same awul tagliatelli with bolognaise sauce - my daughter is vegetarian!! We waited another twenty minutes and no alternative was offered, so after 11/2 hours we left without actually having eaten. The manager was advised of our problems who did no say a word and just marched back to his office and slammed the door. We will never be returning.

An excellent and honest pub!!!

Everyone to their own regards the previous review, but when I go into a pub I would like it to be clean and friendly and serve a good pint. This place does exactly what it says on the tin. It is clean, the staff are friendly and very honest. I say that from experience because I left an Adidas bag hanging on a chair in the beer garden at night and then walked back to my boat and forgot it. I only remembered in the morning and walked forlornly back to the pub to ask if it had been handed in. Certainly Sir, was the response, I put it behind the bar for safe keeping and my bag with all the contents was returned. This place deserves full marks for that in this day and age. In addition though the beer is clean and crisp, they open in the mornings for a full English and less if you wish. They offer a cashback facility if you spend more than £20 on debit cards and they try to entertain. 1st rate!!!!
