Fishermans Bar, Burgh Castle - a real gem!

Excellent pub. Since it has re-opened we have visited several times. Good basic bar menu plus specials with some imagination - all very well cooked. Great atmosphere and very friendly welcome from professional landlady and staff. Decor and furnishings simple but good quality, and everything looks clean and cared for (and not just because of being new). Clientele includes locals, visiting yachstmen and boating folks, and chalet/ caravan owners - a really nice mix of people. The view from the pub is spectacular, and when the weather is nice there are plenty of tables outside. A short walk leads to Burgh Castle Roman castle - a very important part of our coast's history and well worth a visit (which is free!). Have seen (well-behaved) children coming in and being welcomed. Have also seen well-behaved dogs on leads, and there is a doggie drinking-bowl outside.

Mooring Description :
Room for two to three fairly large boats right outside the pub. About 300 yards to the South there is a very long public mooring with a good footpath to get to the Fishermans.
Food Description :
We have tried several things, including: Scampi - proper scampi, not overcooked. Cajun chicken kebabs (specials menu)- if you get there before I do and have the last one I will not speak to you! Salmon (specials menu)- fresh, delicious and cooked perfectly. Beefburger/ cheeseburger - home-made and tasty lean meat. Chips - crispy on the outside. Veggies - simple and not overdone. Salad - shows some imagination, plus a nice dressing. Have not tried the desserts yet - they look huge! Service is friendly and prompt. Asked 'how is your meal' at suitable interval into starting eating; I think the question is asked genuinely and not just as a courtesy.

Well Worth a Visit

Staff were friendly and efficient. We enjoyed a very pleasant meal and the staff were happy to substitute salad with my partner's roast chicken when requested. The meals arrived promptly and were tasty and well presented. The only slight downside was the beer. It all comes from the Greene King stable (IPA, Speckled Hen and County) which are a bit un-inspiring. Tried all 3 beers but sadly they were all hazy even when new casks were put on. However apart from this the place is very comfortable with superb river views. Will certainly visit again.

Mooring Description :
Moorings outside the pub and further upstream past Goodchild Marine.
Food Description :
Very pleased with the meal in terms of value, quality and service.

Stopped off there one Sunday afternoon, dont know if the staff had an off day but no smiles at all. Beer was good though.

Mooring Description :
Alongside moorings outside the pub, enough for about 4 broads cruisers so may need to lay alongside as the river narrows near here.
