Easter 2018

Visited during the Easter holidays and had a favourable impression. All the tables in the restaurant had been recently re-varnished and were looking clean and tidy. Service was very quick and the staff were very pleasant. We were there early evening so it was empty when we arrived, but it was soon quite busy especially for a Tuesday evening. Nice to see a children's play area.

Mooring Description :
Womack water 5 minutes walk
Food Description :
Excellent varied menu. A slightly more expensive than pub grub, but the standard of the food justified the prices. Children's menu had some nice choices. Can recommend the beef stroganoff.

A carvery to die for!

The pub is a 10 minute walk from Womack Staithe, but when you arrive it is worth it with a bar, outside seating, childrens area and food, food, food!

Mooring Description :
Moorings at Womack Water are stern on and plentiful. If boats are spread out, but not leaving much room, I always find that they move if you start reversing to that thin gap between!!
Food Description :
We ate at this pub and have to say what a carvery! We went in order to sample the famous carvery and were NOT disappointed. Julie and I approached the counter with a waiting chef and a Beef, Pork, Ham and Turkey roast to choose from. You could either go for just one meat or any combination. The chef then proceeded to put a little stuffing, sausage wrapped in bacon and a large yorkshire on the plate. He then pointed us both to a large selection of cooked vegetables, gravy and side sauces to choose from and pile on your plate as your appetite or greed required. All for £8.50 per head! We spent more at a horrendous Little chef on the way down. The meal was TREMENDOUS! My 19 year old son Mike went for the Chicken combo which was £15.95 and was a humungous plate of various chicken pieces in various styles! Not as good as the carvery, I believe, but he liked it. Cally went for the bolognese and appeared to like it, especially as it came with 2 generous portions of garlic bread. Us Boltonians believe garlic bread is the future! But Cally is a yorkshire lass so she just doesn't get that comment. LOL! I have had carvery many times and NONE, better the Kings Arms. 1st rate and a must visit.

Good food and a decent pint of Broadside

We dined there twice on 22nd and 24th September. We used the outside tables because we had the dog with us. Did not see any children in the pub possibly because we ate late evening.

Mooring Description :
Generally good at Womack Staithe but you need to get there early afternoon as it gets busy even in late September. A nice pub with a varied menu at reasonable prices.
Food Description :
First visit I had home-made pie and veggies etc. My wife opted for the cod and chips. Both were well pleased with quality and quantity. Second visit I tried the Gressingham Duck in apricot, cranberry and orange sauce with rosti potatoes. The better half tried the smokey chicken. Again good portions and we both enjoyed our meals. Service was excellent both times. Vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection. First meal was just over £20 for both of us, second meal was £25+ which I thought was a bit steep. However, I rarely complain at the price if I enjoy a good meal and the Kings arms I can recommend.

Good in Parts - Excellent Food

I ate here with my parents on 17th September 2009. We arrived without a booking and were told there would be a table in the restaurant in 30 minutes. That was fine so we retired to the bar. I’ve previously only used the restaurant so this was the first experience of the bar. Immediate impressions were of a good range of beers but it was too noisy. Conversation would be difficult or impossible. (I should point out that all three of us are hearing aid users, so this would not bother everyone). Fortunately there is outside seating complete with patio heaters and lighting. These are on a time switch which makes them more environmentally friendly. At the bar, service was not that good. We were ignored by a couple of staff who seemed to be pouring drinks for the restaurant. A simple “I’ll be with you shortly” would have made a significant difference. The round of drinks revealed poorly kept Sundew and rather better London Pride. The third choice, G & T is the same anywhere. Continuing to the restaurant, the food is reviewed below Suffice to say it was good.. The service varied. One waitress was outstanding. Charming, helpful and informative, nothing was too much trouble. Her colleagues, however, seemed to be suffering from indifference, inexperience or both. It also seemed that staffing levels were inadequate.

Mooring Description :
As a sailor, were it not for the fact that the boat lives at Swallowtail, the choice would be Hunters Yard. Moorings for yachts only and with showers.
Food Description :
We didn’t have starters. All three main courses (Sea Bass, Garlic Chicken and Carpetbagger) were excellent quality and substantial portions. The steak for my Carpetbagger was genuinely rare, which makes a difference. Prices were also very reasonable. The others both enjoyed the Strawberry Champagne Meringue. Unfortunately I was disappointed to find there was no Cheese and Biscuits option, so they lost a sale. The wine list was not very extensive, but had some good options and was reasonable priced. We chose the Rioja Reserva and were very pleased with it.

A very disappointing experience at this pub

We had booked a table for 8.00pm 0n Saturday 29.8.09. We arrived at 7.50 to be told that we would have to wait half an hour for the table and a further hour to receive any food.It would appear that preferencehad been given to people who had walked in without booking.Someone has said this was the best kept secret on the broads, perhaps it should stay that way!!!

Good Food, Poor choice of beers though....

Only a short walk from Womack but *** take a torch or battery camping lantern! *** We visited twice in the last week of September 2008, both times it was busy but not so busy you could not walk in off the street and get a table for seven people! The food was good, it is one of the few places where I have ordered a rare steak and actually got a rare steak. Overall the meals were excellent for a slightly above average price so represented good value for money, so I have rated an eight out of ten. The service was however very mediocre, I usually tip about 10% of the bill which would have seen a £10 tip but I left nothing either time. The food costs the same in the bar as the restaurant, so you won't save anything that way either! And swerve round the house wines, they are awful (as is usually the case with house wines).

Mooring Description :
Womack, what can I say? Plenty room in the back end of the season, only £3. Good fishing too.
Food Description :
Rib eye steak, excellent, as was the Gammon, the Duck, the mixed grill, baked cod on Parmesan mash, and the Stroganoff. The Gourmet burger was a real let-down though, if you have had ANY of Frankie and Benny's burgers then don't have this one. Pizza is a touch over priced at £9.99 for cheese and tomato and 3 toppings, but was enjoyed. Kids' meals went down well too, and they were happy to deviate from the kids menu, sausage, egg chips and beans, but requested without the egg came to the table as double sausage chips and beans!

If you want a decent pint you are more likely to get one here than most pubs on the Broads. Usual suspects, Adnams, Woodfordes, GK and London Pride. Service was friendly, helpful and efficient. Garden/kiddies area at the side of the pub

Food Wonderful

On a recent holiday, we visited the King's Arms twice. On both occasions the food was excellent - service varied between staff. The Gressingham Duck was a fabulous meal - makes a real change from the "chips with everything" culture at many other venues along the Broads. My only issue was the quantity of dogs in the bar area (four legged variety of course!). Not being a dog lover it was, at times, like running the gauntlet.

Very disappointed

The Kings Arms used to be a favourite pub for a good quality meal, we have been there many times. This weekend was the 1st time this year we have had a meal in the restaurant. Unfortunately, it will also be our last. We complained about 1 of the meals which cost £17.99(altho the other was not good either) and was told "very sorry, yes its our mistake but will not happen again" - no mention of a price reduction or perhaps even a free sweet! We did not want to cause a scene and decided to pay the bill in full, but will not take our custom there again. Note : usually very full and have to book but both pub and restaurant noticeably empty!!

Mooring Description :
Very good moorings at Womack Staithe.
Food Description :
Fillet steak (medium) with pepper Sauce - £17.99. The steak was inedible - it was raw!! just lightly cooked either side, it was grisly, had no taste and was luke warm. Full Rack of Barbecue Pork Ribs £12.00. Congealed cooked blood on side of ribs was not appealing, slimey fat underneath ribs and luke warm. The accompanying chips, peas, salad etc was very nice though!!
