I hired Salerno No. 2 for a weekend break from 31st August 2012. You can watch the day by day video diary of this trip at www.youtube.com/feelmyheaven . Salerno is a budget boat with a lot of features and thoroughly comfortable interior fit out that makes her price seem crazy cheap. Salerno features a newer Nanni engine mounted aft on hydrolytic drive – this coupled with the fact I fitted in Stalham to Wroxham – Wroxham to Potter Heigham then Womack Water then to Stokesby and back up to Nettishead and Stalham resulted in a £53.60 fuel use for the 3 nights. I estimate the same trip on a shaft drive engine would have cost about £45.00. The hot air heater is a 2kw model which heated the boat through fine, the plastic hot air pipe did come astray and was fixed the following day by Richardson’s – the heating is controllable between low or high on a thermostat so you can have it ‘ticking over’ when things are not too chilly. The boat has some great lighting (wish more hire boats did not adopt these low energy ‘square’ type lights) they give off a warm light akin to your domestic lighting. The cooker was basic, two burner affair with a girl that took an ice age to toast bread – these stoves cost far more than a basic 4 burner LPG domestic cooker, so not sure why they are fitted. Seating was comfortable and soft, as was the bed. Huge toilet bowl much the same as a domestic toilet, good seal kept any smells from the holding tank at bay. Good size heads anyway meant showering was fine. Hot water did not stay hot overnight however. A cosy, draft free boat with plenty of storage, wide safe side decks and a low freeboard mean it is a good choice for a first timer or those less able. Easy to handle, responsive throttle good turning circle proved for ease of mooring be it side or stern on. Underway the boat tended to want to steer more left than right and you could not take hand of the wheel. While the boat is not the best to look at being a ‘bath tub’ with basic hire starting at under £320.00 a week you really cannot go wrong!

Hired this boat in October 2007. It proved excellent value for money, being lower priced than equivalents elsewhere by a country mile & yet having had a complete refit in 2006/2007. The refit has been executed very well, with the old laminates & drop down bed & galley units gone in favour of a completely new fit out. It was a very comfortable boat for 3 people, the warm air heatin working very well. The engine was new this season & was beautifully smooth & quiet. Niggles were all equipment based - there were insufficient kitchen utensils (no baking tins or wine glasses) & the DVD player didn't work. However, there was nothing major to complain about.
